I rolled up to JJ's house shortly after my epiphany, blaring a CD that I had burnt before the storm that had all of my favorite music on it. Currently, 'Someday Soon' by Harlem was playing, and in all honesty, it felt like it fit the mood.

"Let's ride." The blonde grinned, a cigarette dangling from his lips.

"This better be good." Pope rolled his eyes, the two of them hopping into the back. We drove to The Wreck quietly, just listening to the music. We had nothing to talk about for the first time in a while.

"She said she's not coming." Pope walked out of the front doors of the restaurant, leaning on the wooden banister.

"Shit," I huffed, unbuckling my seatbelt.

"Why?" JJ poked his head between the two front seats, glancing in my direction. "Chayse, what'd you do to her?"

"Nothing," I responded shortly, slamming the car door after me. "I'll deal with it."

I walked inside the establishment, spotting Kie standing on a chair, spackling a hole in the wall. "What are you doing?"

"What does it look like?"

"Spackling can wait. We're— we're about to make some kind of history."

"Are you concocting again? It's been like, three hours." She stepped off of the chair and started for the back door, walking fast enough that I had to jog to keep up.

"Yes, I'm concocting. I'm concocting more than I've ever concocted before in my entire life." I ran a hand through my hair, letting it hit the side of my thigh when I dropped it dramatically. "I know you're just trying to be a good friend and you're not trying to enable me in my delusion but—"

"Dude."

"And I know your dad doesn't want you to see me unless we're working, but please." I stopped her at the door frame, holding onto her shoulders. "You're my best friend, Kie. And I need you right now. and I'm sorry about the whole other thing but that's not the point. I need you and I'm begging. It's not even about making history at this point, I just want some kind of answers. You don't even have to do anything, just be—"

"Oh my god! Shut up." She cut me off, my eyebrows furrowing.

"What?"

"I get it. Let's go." She kissed my cheek, eyes bright. "Friends."

"Yeah, best friends." I sighed in relief, hugging her for a split second, despite how hot my neck was growing. "And this time, I'm positive."
