INTERVIEWER: Okay, Vienna, A lot of people credit you for breaking down barriers in Rock, women in rock that was kind of unheard of back then. What was that like for you?

VIENNA: oh, god. Quite honestly? it was shit. [laughs] I'm not going to sugarcoat it. I was good, really good but people didn't care about that. It was frustrating, constantly being overlooked because I didn't have a dick.

KAREN: It was this constant battle, you'd repeatedly try to prove yourself for people to blinded by a pair of tits.

VIENNA: That first night at Mcnasty's. We'd walked in just as this other band was leaving, I can't remember what they were called.

EDDIE: They were assholes. Real, smug assholes.

VIENNA: Anyway, we were setting up and one of them had stuck around. The place was small and [laughs] empty, so it was nice to have an audience. Even if it only was one person.

EDDIE: He was a creep. Hadn't stopped looking at her.

VIENNA: Before we played, i walked over to get a drink from the bar.

She tapped on the bar top haphazardly. The bartender circled back, placing her bottle of coke on the smooth surface. She thanked him, hand dipping into her pocket at fishing for spare change. She needn't bother though, the mysterious man had already swooped in.

She smiled, insincere. "I had it, you didn't need to do that." she spoke, raising the bottle to her lips and taking a sip.

"that's alright, doll face." he sneered, eyes dropping blatantly to her chest. She laughed at him, giving him a once over before attempting to turn away. "So, what do you do?" He grabbed her arm before motioning  to the band.

Fed up, she crossed her arms over her chest. "I'm the guitarist."

VIENNA: he laughed. Like actually laughed in my face.

"why's that so funny?" she tipped her chin up slightly.

"well, y'know it's just that girls don't do rock and roll, sweetheart." he spoke patronisingly so. "then a pretty thing like you could just sit there and look pretty to rake in dough."

VIENNA: god, i was so angry. It was belittling.

"Y'know what you can do, sweetheart?" She matched his slow pace, smiling as she did. "go fuck yourself." She spoke.

"Now there's no need to be like that, doll." he laughed again. "come on, i know how to please a woman." he whispered in her hear.

Grimacing, she drank what was left of her drink. "then please leave me alone."

VIENNA: he left after our first song. but his words, they always stuck with me. I think because half of it was true. No matter how good i was, it was never going to matter. Not when all they ever saw me as was a pretty face.

EDDIE: I could see that whatever he'd said, she didn't like it. I could tell in the way she played that night. It was different, it was angry.
