Her feet were sore and throbbing, she was losing her mind watching and waiting for someone new to walk in just so she could take their order. It was like watching paint dry. A double shift, covering for someone who definitely wouldn't do the same. Her shoulders glistened with sweat, the little fan she stood in front of failing to fulfil its purpose. It was fine though, she had daisy. Not that she had the opportunity to speak to her with how busy it was. She was waiting on the fries, they always took the longest to cook. She tapped away at her mini notebook, she tapped aimlessly along to beat of the music from the jukebox in the corner of the diner. tap, tap, tap. Wait, she knew that song. Where did she know it from.
VIENNA: I knew it because it was my song.
Vienna yelped, startling the old woman sat at the bar opposite her. Clearing her throat, she apologised before circling the bar and making a direct line.
Daisy was just handing out the last plate of food before Vienna hooked her arm under her own. "Do you hear that?" Vienna beamed, "That voice sounds oddly familiar" She squealed. Daisy shook her head in disbelief, yanking the brunette into the direction of the jukebox.
"Oh my god", they practically sprinted over to the jukebox, Viennas hand flew to her mouth when her eyes landed on it.
"Daisy," Vienna, whispered trying to calm herself down. "That's our song." She spoke, before losing her cool. She grabbed the arm of an elderly man entering the diner, "That's our song," she motioned towards the jukebox "That's our fucking song." she wrapped her arms around daisy.
DAISY: we stood there, jumping up and down with our arms around each other until the song ended.
VIENNA: It makes me smile thinking about it. And when we got our first pay check, for the album, i knew we were making our way up in the world.
WARREN: six hundred dollars went a long way in those days.
BILLY: even though i wrote most of the songs. we split the publishing evenly. I thought why not i mean, we're a family.
GRAHAM: the first thing i bought? a surfboard.
EDDIE: a couple of amps, fuzz pedal.
KAREN: stock market, obviously.
WARREN: oh, there was this beautiful fur vest in a shop down in Venice.
VIENNA: I bought some stamps, [smiles] used them to send a copy of the album back home. I wanted them to know, it was worth something y'know i wanted them to proud of me.
INTERVIEWER: were they? I mean, did you get a response.
VIENNA: yeah, [smiles] i did.
"How soon does it kick in?" Warren asked,
"Depends on the person," Karen replied. They were all on the small 'balcony', if you could even call it that. Laid out in deck chairs, Vienna uncomfortably sandwiched into a single chair with Warren.
"Woah," he stood up, laughing. She used the opportunity to take his space. Vienna laughed, triumphantly. "Now i feel like on a molecular level y'know that me and the canyon we are," he clapped "no, we're the same man,"
"warrens feeling it," Karen laughed, turning to Eddie.
Viennas brows furrowed, "can you guys hear the phone?" She asked, "Is that the phone?" she couldn't quite decipher between reality and the vastly approaching high. "I'll get it"
After clambering down the stairs, she stumbled over to the phone which was indeed ringing. "Hello?" she asked after bringing the handset to her ear.
"Vienna,"
