{ this basically starts where the last one left off }
" i think i like you and i think you like me too. "
calum pov
the support group was exactly how i expected. we went around in a circle, introducing ourselves and telling why we're in the hospital.
a lot of girls were there because of suicide attempts, along with a few boys. there were more boys who were there because of fights with kids at school than i had thought there would be.
"ashton, it's your turn," the group leader had a sickeningly sweet voice, and it made me feel as though she thought we were incompetent children.
i looked at ashton as he swallowed deeply, clearing his throat and looking up nervously.
"hi, uh, i'm ashton, and i'm seventeen," he started, biting his lip, "my parents have been abusive my whole life, and they recently found out that i'm gay. they freaked out, and i nearly died, and here i am." he shrugged as though it was nothing.
i looked at ashton with wide eyes. sure, my parents weren't supportive of me, but they'd never hurt me like that. i couldn't imagine living in that house.
"i'm pretty sure they're in jail now, i don't know. my aunt's the one who's been handling all the business with the doctors," he added, looking down.
"thank you, ashton," the woman with the annoying voice cooed, making me want to vomit, "calum, please, introduce yourself."
i sighed before starting. "i'm calum hood, i'm seventeen years old, and i tried to kill myself, but i don't need to be here. next."
annoying voice lady frowned at me. "you do need to be here, calum, the doctors have all said so. please, elaborate, and take this seriously."
"i cross dress, and my parents don't like it, and i got sick of being the only person i knew who felt alone, so i took some pills, and luckily someone found me before i died. i know now that it was a dumb move, so i actually don't need to be here after all," i was frowning deeply, slightly snapping at the woman. everyone looked at me as though they were scared, and the woman shook her head.
"um, alright then. jade, you have the floor."
a girl with red hair started to babble on about her troubles, but i wasn't listening. i didn't know what had made me so angry. maybe it was because i felt weak. most of the people were with suicide attempts had much worse things going on in their lives. ashton had unsupportive and abusive parents, but he had made it this far without trying to kill himself. why didn't i know how to deal with my problems? i felt like a coward. the scowl on my face had melted into something else, and i felt like i could cry.
my body jerked in shock as i felt a large hand come to rest on my thigh. i looked up at ashton, who looked worried.
"are you okay?" he whispered. i blinked, still surprised by his gentle action.
"i-uh, i think so, yeah."
"okay," he smiled gently, but didn't move his hand. i didn't want him to.
