Naomi Carter
Sleep, isn't it such a wonderful thing. In dreams, one can escape the troubles of reality, the burdens of exhaustion and the strict unrealistic boundaries that keep us in line.
Wedding bells resounded all throughout the room, I look at the faces of my loved ones, and the others that came, all of them focusing on me with bright teary eyes of joy. I grinned at my elegant gown as I walked the red carpet, petals of white and red roses on my path as I slowly raised my eyes to see the groom waiting.... waiting for me. This was my moment. As those emerald green eyes locked with mine, it took everything in me not to throw myself at him. A very disarming smile spread over his lips as the voice of a woman said "Naomi!" A voice of a woman? My groom's voice shouldn't sound like that!
I tripped on the hem of my dress and...
WHAM!
I groaned. The pain of hitting my head against the floor seemed to bring me to my senses. I opened my eyes groggily and looked around. The feeling of disappointment and loss filling me as I swept the room, seeing no wedding being held. Leaning up on my elbows, I stared at the pillow and covers I dragged down with me in my fall... I've already lost count on how many times this has happened. I got up and started to crawl back to bed when I heard my aunt calling, "Naomi! Breakfast is ready."
Hehehe...I'll go back to sleep first. Maybe that dream will continue properly.
"Get the hell off of that bed and get down here before I drag you down myself!"
"I'm coming!" I said immediately. She wasn't kidding when she said that...I know 'cause she already did that to me twice...
I quickly got up, put on my slippers and ran downstairs, not bothering to fix myself or wash my face. When I got down, auntie was already eating. I pouted at the sight of what she prepared this morning. "I wanted bacon and eggs," I whined.
"I get to pick since I'm the one doing the cooking," she said plainly. I sighed and went to sit across from her. "But you never let me cook," I grumbled.
"Are you kidding me? If cooking breakfast was your job, I'd be starving by the time you wake up and start preparing. Besides, I am not letting you anywhere near my kitchen. I like my house, thank you very much,"she said. I cringed at her words. She had once tried teaching me how to cook. And the result was smoke everywhere, and some exploding eggs... I still don't know how I was able to make such dangerous things, but auntie said the military would gladly use them for war. Since then I've been banne from cooking, baking, or even toasting bread. I almost burned the house with the toaster...
Why didn't God give me at least some normal kitchen skills!?
.I took a pancake, grabbed the butter and syrup, and started my breakfast.
"If you'll just teach me how to cook," I mumbled as I chewed.
"If I did that, I'd be risking my life," she said. "And you'd just be wasting perfectly good ingredients as well as my time. Face it kid, you have no future in the kitchen."
"Can you at least make bacon and eggs tomorrow?" I begged as I took my glass of water and gulped it down.
"Alright, but you'll have to wake up early if that's what you want." Then she looked at me and squinted her eyes. "You should really fis your hair dear. You haven't even washed your face and...is that a candy wrapper in your hair?"
I blushed as I swallowed what was still in my mouth before timidly running my hands through my hair, looking for the little wrapper. I was eating some candy last night while reading stories from my favorite website. I thought I cleaned up my mess...There! I got it out and threw it in the trash can.
