West Gray
“Guys!!! Where are you!?” I called out. Naomi hushed me, and so did Sky. “What?”
“They’ll hear you and escape!” she whispered. Oh, right. I zipped my mouth and used my eyes to search the room. We were the first ones to be caught… I think Sky did it on purpose, because he always knows where Tyler hides, but he just decided to check on the noisy closet instead.
We split up, or more like, me and Naomi were to search in the kitchen and dining room, while Sky scans the living room and the rest. I quietly followed Naomi’s lead as she tiptoed soundlessly towards the dining room. How does she do that? She’s quieter than a mouse. I didn’t want to ask her and be hushed again so I kept my mouth shut.
Actually, after Sky found us, I wasn’t able to answer her question. She was completely red and the look on her face meant that she was trying to forget what she asked and pretend that nothing ever happened. Well, I couldn’t bring out the subject either because… it’s just awkward that’s all.
Naomi bent down, checking under the table. I went to the curtains and found nobody. Geez, why did Sky have to check the closet of all places?
Naomi was avoiding eye contact with me at all cost. Even when she hushed me she never met my gaze. I sighed mentally and went behind her as she was peering through the kitchen door. I put a hand on her shoulder with my index pointing so that when she looked… Oh, yeah! She looked and my finger poked her cheek. I chuckled and saw her blush furiously. I never get tired of teasing her.
Then my ears heard the creaking sound that was just too familiar. I whirled around and dashed towards the stairs and found a shadow before it disappeared. I heard footsteps behind me and saw Naomi panting as she wondered why I suddenly ran. I put my index to my lips and she nodded. I quickly ran up, signaling Naomi to step where I step so as not to cause any creaking. I kept my back to the wall as I crept to my room. I wasn’t entirely sure if one of my friends were there, so I waited for the sign that… Yes! Someone tripped on the truck Tyler was playing with this morning. I ran in and saw one of the twins clutching their hurting foot. “Score!” I yelled as I laughed at him. For once, it was not only me who fell victim to Ty’s bloody toys!
“No fair! You laid traps!” Natt, or Nick, said.
“Tell that to my brother,” I grinned.
Naomi entered the room and we high-fived. I took a deep satisfied breath and asked her, “So which of the twins did we get?”
“Nick,” she said confidently. And Nick glared at her for revealing him.
“Where’s Natt?” I asked.
“Ha, I ain’t telling,” he said as he sat up frowning.
I thought back. I think I saw two shadows coming up here. They must’ve split up… but the nearest to hide in is… Bam! I grinned as I ran to the sound of the crash. Naomi and Nick were right behind me when I opened to the worst room in the house.
I cracked up at the sight in front of me. “I knew I should’ve went right instead of left,” Natt muttered. He was lying on the floor, a pring tangled around his foot, soldier toys scattered on the floor. A red little car was near the door (which must’ve been the main reason he crashed), and big stuffed gorilla was smiling goofily on his head. Even Nick grinned at the sight of his brother as he lent him a hand. “Your brother’s room is a death trap…” he grumbled.
“Yeah, mom already gave up in entering this room.” And out of nowhere, mom suddenly appeared. “You boys are sure making a ruckus around the house,” she said as she peered through the door. She sighed at the mess Tyler never cleaned up. “Why is it that Tyler is so much like you when you were in his age?” she said.
