el was sitting at her desk, staring intently at the control in front of her. she was sweating profusely, and her hands were shaking as she looked down at the sheet of paper in front of her. all she had managed to write on the page was her name, and she was already starting to panic.

despite studying all night for the exam, half of the theory she had learned had escaped her mind. looking around at the other students, eleanor could see that they were all furiously scribbling away, turning pages and writing at a speed she didn't even know was possible. especially not during at math test- even the tapping on the calculator was out of this world.

it took all of her willpower not to simply curl up into a ball and disappear from the surface of the universe.

with a deep breath, eleanor picked up her pencil again and tried her best to remember what she had learned. time seemed to pass in a blur, and before she knew it, the end of the exam had arrived. the teacher made his way through the rows of desks, collecting the sheets of paper from each student and offering congratulations along the way. when he got to her, however, his expression turned sour. "i'm expecting at least a b, miss hopper. that's what you need," he said, before sliding eleanor's  sheet off the desk and moving on without another word.

oh yeah, her teacher really disliked her for some reason. maybe it was because she really didn't have the logical thinking way she was supposed to have for being in this class.

feelinf defeated, she knew that she wouldn't be getting a b. in fact, she wasn't sure if she would even get a c. but at least it was over now, and she could move on. she stretched her sore muscles and picked up her backpack, ready to head off to the library. even though it was lunchtime, el wanted to catch up on all of her other classes - she had learned her lesson and would never miss a math class again at least not this semester.

she would be in desperate need of a tutor if she even wanted to have a little hope of passing.

her cellphone buzzed in her back pocket, picking up her interest. she put her airpods in and sat on a rocking chair at the library before taking it out looking at the screen.

mike or whatever 🙄

you good angel? i saw you storming off the class before i could even come up to you

she lowkey forgot mike was in her class, she was way too out of it to even think about him. knowing him he probably aced the test with such an ease, she was jealous. she sighed before replying.

yea, it's just that the teacher acted like a bitch and made me feel horrible for being dumb.

you're not dumb i hope you know that

maybe not all the time but definitely in this class yes. he hates me for some reasons too

pretty sure he hates everyone, i wouldn't take it personal. but if you want i can help you with this class

WOULD YOU?
YOUD BECOME MY TUTOR?

eleanor heart raced as she awaited mike's response. she couldn't believe her luck. mike wheeler, the smartest kid in their class, was willing to be her tutor. she felt a wave of gratitude and relief wash over her. if anyone could help her pass this class, it was him. him who had so much ease doing the test despite missing a couple of classes. some people were really blessed with a fast learning ability in math.

as she waited for his response, el couldn't help but let her mind wander. she had always been an independent learner, preferring to study on her own rather than rely on anyone else. but after that disastrous test, she knew she needed help. and who better to get it from than wheeler himself?
