Buzz.

Buzz.

My eyes shot open; they darted the room trying to locate my cell phone. I tried to sit up. Both my neck and my back were extremely sore. Last night I didn't even make it into my pajamas, let alone under my covers. I dragged my feet to the table in the "dining room" and picked up the vibrating brick.

"Hello?" I looked at the clock.

2:30pm.

"Castiel, it's Dean."

I let out a relieved sigh. Maybe I won't get fired today.

"Greetings Dean, my friend. How should I assist you at this time, two hours and thirty minutes into the afternoon on.." I paused.

"Today is Sunday, the sixth of June." I heard a gentle laugh on the other line. It somewhat comforted me though my cheeks were red from embarrassment.

"I don't need your help, yet, my friend. I just wanted to make sure you were alright? You zoomed outa' here pretty quickly after I dumped that load on you, and you dumped a load on me. Oh P.S. I read your note, I guess there's no escaping you now is there? I'm just kidding. I don't want you to leave."

"Yes, I am fine. Does Sam have any head injuries?"

"Why would he..?"

"Because I ran into him when I left your presence last night. "

"Oh yeah! Well His Royal Moosey-ness is a-okay. Wow, I didn't expect you to remember that. I barely do. Anyway, you don't have to worry about either of us Castiel."

I got tense. "Well, now it's a duty of mine to watch over you two boys. I care about almost everyone I meet anyhow. Plus.. It would be rude to not care for whatever came of my new creature-vanquishing instructors!"

"How do you know how to use all those words so well?"

"I use an extended vocabulary and an array of different sentence types to disguise the fact that I am not as intelligent as I may sound..er..look..umm.."

"CASTIEL WHATEVER YOUR LAST NAME IS!"

"Novak.."

"CASTIEL FUCKING NOVAK LISTEN TO ME! You are one of the smartest dudes I've ever met! At least you're better off than me. I don't even have a high school diploma. C'mon, laugh it out. Get all your giggles out. 'Dean; the kid who's younger brother knows more than him' anyway, you are one of the coolest dweebs I've ever seen! I've only known you for like a week or so, but it seems like I've bonded with you in the past few days more than I ever had with someone else in a year! That's because of YOU Castiel! your caring, your kindness, your welcome..ness. Don't ever doubt yourself, Castiel!"

I stared at the wall in front of me. "Thanks Dean.. But you're way better than me; and no, I don't care if you've graduated high school or not. You save lives for a living. I, I just take up space. I'm a useless speck in the shadow of the world. Your, hell, everyone's life would be better off without me!"

"CASTIEL I WILL PUNCH YOUR PRETTY LITTLE BLUE EYES IN TO THE BACK OF THAT PRETTY LITTLE HEAD OF YOURS! First off; you said you wanna join, so you'll be saving lives too. Second, don't EVER say you mean nothing to this world again. Right now, you mean the world to me, and so I kind of want you alive. Okay? Shit. Don't do something stupid, Cas. You here that? I'll call you Cas if you promise not to hurt yourself! I mean it!"

"Thank you Dean, I'll try."

I clicked the "end" button and set the phone down.

Don't do anything dumb, Cas. Please Cas, you are worth something. If Dean thinks so it must be true. You barely know the guy but it feels like you've know him your whole life. He thinks you can do it, so maybe you can.

Maybe you can.
