(Third person POV)

Toby and Clara eventually returned after raiding their friends' houses through the secret tunnel, after fighting off some mobs surrounding it as night had already fallen.

Both of them returned home to find no one there. Pastel had probably flown off to find blood.

"Nothing out of order.... that's a good sign. Pastel really did her job well." Toby said.

"Well, we should refill the supply chests. We're running out of food here." Clara said, putting some food in a chest.

Just at that moment, Pastel flew in and turned back into a human. "Hey Pastel. Seen anything out there?"

"No. I earlier got sidetracked by a cave leading somewhere else. It didn't look natural, but it looked man made. We should investigate when we have the chance." Pastel said.

"A cave, huh...." Clara said. "Did you explore it?"

"Well, I went inside and saw lots of tunnels ending in twists and turns. Might be really easy to get lost in there."

"Alright, we'll investigate first thing tomorrow. We can't go out at night anymore, it's way too dangerous, even for experienced fighters like us." Toby said.

"Alright, good night Toby." Clara said, heading to bed.

"Good night, guys."

(Toby POV)

I laid on my bed, staring at the photo I had gotten earlier that day. I couldn't help but cry to myself. Especially with everything happening now...

"Toby?"

I got up and saw the ghost of Cloudy, hovering near the door.

"Something wrong?"

"Well, it's just..." I sighed. "I really miss Ember. She's was so close to me, and now she's missing..."

Cloudy looked apologetic. After all, they were the one who helped raise both me and Ember when we were younger.

"I just thought about it, since you are a ghost, can you help me find Ember?" I said, looking for any hope at all that Ember was still alive.

"Nope, sorry. Sometimes there are places we can't enter. We have a mental list of the places we can't enter though, but I kinda forgot it. I'll tell you when I remember it."

"Thanks Cloudy." I said before settling down to sleep.

"Anytime." Cloudy said, floating through the door.

I then went to sleep, but through the night I heard knocking noises on the front door.

Must be my imagination, I thought.
-----------------

I woke up and took some weapons from the supply chests. I was glad to see that none of the chests were searched, so the intruder had not broken in again.

Pastel came in, but she didn't look neutral as she usually did. Her face had fear on it.

"What is it, Pastel? What's wrong?" I asked curiously.

"Hey Toby. I don't want to sound weird, but erm... I saw someone at your front door last night...It...kinda looked like...Ember."

I felt my blood run cold. "What? You're kidding."

"No I'm not. She was just standing there, knocking on your door."

"I knew I heard knocking on my door. But Ember... I don't know how to react to this." I said.

"I was on the top of the storage and saw Ember at your door. I rubbed my eyes, and she had disappeared. I don't know whether she's been hypnotised or not." Pastel said.

"Anyways," I said, trying to shake the uncomfortable feeling off, "We should go and investigate that cave you were talking about. Have you seen Clara anywhere?"

"Last I saw her was last night. She isn't normally this late." Pastel said.

"Has she been attacked?" I said. "Come on, let's go check on her!"

Both of us ran as fast as we could to Clara's sleeping quarters. Pastel opened the door to find Clara, looking traumatized, as if something bad had happened last night.

"What happened, Clara?!" I exclaimed out of worry and panic.

"Last night...Ember suddenly appeared in my room. She attacked me but I managed to escape and hide out in the helicopter for a while before I returned back to my bed. I saw a note had been left there for me." Clara said shakily.

"What did the note say?" Pastel said.

" 'I'm coming for you three.' That's what it said before the note disappeared." Clara said.

I couldn't believe it. Every single emotion seemed to hit me like a truck. I couldn't handle it anymore.

"Toby, you ok-"

I suddenly violently reacted, pulling my hand out of Pastel's grip and running out of the room, and out of the base.

I didn't know where I was running, all I knew is that I ran a long way.

Away from the base.
Away from those horrible experiences.

I eventually made it to the courthouse. I sank to the floor, leaning against the outer wall and cried.

I don't know why I ran to the courthouse. It was filled with bad memories that would only make things worse in my current state.

"Why does this keep happening to us?"
