EVEN HALF A YEAR AGO, there had been whispersabout the Ocean Summoner. About who the person might be. And it was the first time I had heard the name "Angelique" come from someone else's lips in a good five years and a half.
It was six months ago, when I was Sturmhond on the sea, that the words "Ocean Summoner" and "Angelique" reached my ears from Tolya's and Tamar's conversation. Naturally, I had eavesdropped.
"You really think this 'Angelique' character is the Ocean Summoner?" Tolya grunts in a low voice.
Her name locks me in place. I don't dare to move, I want to hear the rest of this conversation.
"I'd think it would be pretty hard to fake her powers," Tamar replies while sharpening her axes. "And did you hear?" Tamar grins. "She's half Shu."
"I don't know," Tolya says, "What if she's just a really powerful Tidemaker?"
"A Tidemaker who can move the waves of the Unsea and summon moonlight?" Tamar scoffs. "Not normal and it suspiciously sounds like how the Ocean Summoner was described in the prophecy."
That can't be, I think. There's other people out there named Angelique who are half Shu right? Besides, the Angelique I know can't be Grisha.
But my logic tells me it's quite unlikely so. Angelique did always seem to have an affinity with water and a certain liking to the lake. She always seemed invigorated, or full of strength and energy after a swim. Yet I still can't bring myself to believe it. Angelique is a good person, someone who loves Ravka despite how she's treated, but the fated Ocean Summoner? Seems a bit farfetched.
