10 years later
I looked over at Beau as we got Elli settled into her dorm. Time has been flying by these last couple years and Elli is a freshman in college now. I still remember the first day I met her, who knew I would become her mother.
Beau - Alright Ny'Elli no partying, no staying out late past 12, and no boys in here
Melody - how you gonna parent her and we're 4 hours away. The school doesn't have a curfew so she doesn't either. Let that girl live a little.
Beau - that's my baby though.
Melody - Beau I know that but she's an adult now and we have two 14 year olds.
Marshall - Elli if there are any cute girls here let me know
Beau - stay in your own grade
Magnolia - exactly
Surprisingly Ny'Elli took after me and is going to culinary room and me and Beau couldn't be more proud of her. The twins on the other hand are more into traditional art like Beau and they've even collaborated on a few of Beau's recent artworks with credits.
Ny'Elli hugged us.
Elli - I'm going miss you guys
Beau - if you ever need anything, call me okay and I'll come get you. Enjoy this experience. Me and your mama love you.
He started to cry. I rubbed his back
Marshall - Can I have Elli's room?
Beau - hell no. You have a room. The both of you.
Elli - you don't have to cry dad. I'll come visit.
Magnolia - Elli don't forget to call me.
Elli - I won't.
She looked at me.
Elli - thank you mama for everything.
Mel - Beau can y'all give me and Elli a few minutes.
Beau - baby if you're gonna cry, you can do it in front of me.
Mel - Benedict
Beau - okay I'm going. Maggie and Marsh let's go.
They walked out.
Ny'Elli started to cry.
I hugged her.
Mel - I'm very proud of you. I don't know if I tell you enough but you are incredible and I am so lucky to have found you and your dad.
Ny'Elli - thank you for being there for me and him. Mostly sad because you know he's a mess. You didn't have to become my mom but you did and I'm so grateful because I think that if I stay with my mom, I probably would turned out like her and resented dad all because he found his soulmate. You know y'all the reason, I believe everyone has a soulmate.
Mel - how so?
Ny'Elli - when you left for those 2 years , dad wasn't himself , and even at 3 and 4 years old, I could tell, he was in love with you and nothing has changed since then.
Benedict Knox - Ellington
A few hours later
I walked into Ny'Elli's room to see Melody sitting on the bedroom crying.
Beau - I knew you were in here. You miss her.
Mel - in a couple years , the twins will be gone too and we'll have an empty house.
