I eventually took shelter in a cluster of coral as the fish slammed into it. Trying to break it apart as it had done with the rock. I felt my chest convulsing as I was running out of air.
The fish had now swam away as it noticed that the coral would not break. I quickly wedged my way out of the coral, swimming to the surface. Just then, the fish circled back and started to charge. I pulled out my dagger using the strength I had left to wield it.
Before it could reach me, another huge sea creature slammed into it, shoving it into the wall and killing it instantly. At that, I felt the last of my air slip away and I drifted into unconsciousness.
When I came to, Lo'ak was shaking me and I coughed, sitting up.
"Lo?" I croaked
"Ayden you're ok!" He exclaimed in relief
Lo'ak hugged me tight and I coughed again before hugging him. I whispered thanks to Eywa as we held each other. I jumped as I heard a rumbling sound.
"Lo- what in the world was that?!" I exclaimed
"Oh yeah- meet Payakan!" He said as he pat the creature

I looked down, we were on top of a giant whale like animal. I watched it breathe from its giant gills. Looking around as there was nobody else in sight. I glanced at Lo'ak before getting down onto one of its huge flippers, looking into its eye.
"You saved me and my brother's lives. Thank you" I said
Lo'ak then showed me the hand motion for thank you and I nodded. Looking back down at Payakan.
"Thank you" I said, repeating the hand motion

Payakan made a noise which I was guessing meant "Your welcome". Lo'ak and I both laughed.
"Buddy I have no idea what you're saying" I said to Payakan
He made a noise again and that's when I noticed an old Harpoon stuck in his fin. I looked at Lo'ak in sorrow and then at Payakan. Putting a hand on his body over his eye.
"They hurt you didn't they?" I asked him
Payakan made a noise of agreement as his pupils enlarged. I immediately got off his fin into the water, Lo'ak right behind me.
"We're gonna pull it out ok? Trust us" Lo'ak told him
Lo'ak then pulled the top part of the harpoon out and I dove underneath his fin to undo the bottom part. After we pulled both pieces out, we threw them into the water. Getting back on Payakan's fin who made happy noises at us.
"Friends?" Lo'ak asked him with the hand sign
Payakan made a happy noise in agreement making Lo'ak and I both laugh again as I pat his fin.
"That's right we're friends! Friends!" Lo'ak exclaimed
I made the hand motion for friends, smiling as Lo'ak pat Payakan's skin above his eye. Payakan suddenly pulled his fin that we were sitting on into the water. Soaking us both when we came back up, he raised his fin again. Splashing us and pushing us back into the water.
"Bro!" Lo'ak exclaimed as I spit out water
Lo'ak and I swam to the underside of Payakan, only to see he had lost a fin. The remaining flesh was scratched up into a stump and covered in scars. Lo'ak and I both put gentle hands over the stump, feeling very sad for him. We glanced at one another and then back to Payakan.
"I'm sorry" We both signed
Payakan later took us for a ride through the ocean. Going faster at Lo'ak's request as we held onto his fin. Lo'ak and I did flips and jumps off of him as we resurfaced. Lo'ak and I stood up on him at one point, doing our war cries. Lo'ak beat his chest with his fists and I raised mine. Payakan then sprayed us with water from the holes in his skin.
"Hey!" I laughed, wiping the water off
"Bro that's disgusting!" Lo'ak laughed, wiping the water off as well
Even though I had just met Payakan, I felt connected with him. Lo'ak and I spent the time we had talking, joking, play fighting, and chasing each other on Payakan. I hadn't seen my brother smile a real smile in a while, it was the most fun we had since who knows how long.

When Payakan started to swim us home, it was dark and Lo'ak fell asleep on my shoulder. We sat on Payakan's fin and I looked up at the stars, getting lost in them before staring in Payakan's eye.
"You like stars? Our dad came from a star. That one" I pointed it out in the sky
Payakan made a noise as I glanced over at Lo'ak. He really needed a day like this, I was glad that Payakan had saved us. Otherwise we wouldn't have been able to share this amazing experience and connection together. I was about to open my mouth when suddenly, I saw the lights of the village and heard the faint calling of our names.
Shit. We were in trouble. I quickly shook Lo'ak awake as he mumbled sleepily.
"Lo! Lo! Wake up we're in so much trouble!" I said in a panic
"Shit!" He cursed as he awoke fully and saw the lights
Lo'ak and I scrambled off of Payakan and into the water. Lo'ak then turned to him, looking him in the eye.
"Payakan! Get out of here!" Lo'ak ordered
Payakan quickly swam away just before a clan member found us. He flew down on his Ikran and we got on. The village alarm sounded as another member announced our arrival.
