A day later...
"The person you are trying to reach is currently not available." The line said for the 15th time.
"Ms. Arora I advice you that she probably is very occupied at the moment and that is why she can not call you back." her assistant said.
"I'll try again in an hour or so." I said and went back to sit in my room. I couldn't believe that I had completely let the weird event in the neighborhood I lived in and Ayu's disappearance both slip my mind. Just because of that one accident I has crossed so many deadlines and missed a ton load of meetings. Now the senior management (who I was supposed to meet up with in multiple meetings) probably thought I was so disorganized even though this was my first time for not being able to complete a task on time.
I unbuttoned some of the buttons on my white blouse and took off my brown colored coat. Ever since the temperature had dropped a little they had increased the temperature so high that it felt like we were sitting inside of an oven. Now I felt so bad for all the sweets I baked that had to go through this torture all the time. Even wearing a tank and shorts would probably not help. Not that anyone would try that or anything.
Drops of sweat had started rolling down my neck and gathering in my bra. I groaned in frustration as I still had so much paperwork to complete. I finished gathering information for a convict who's court trial would be held in a few days. As I put those files in it's folder someone entered my office without knocking.
I looked up to see Mr. Johnson, the COO of the firm I was working in. What work did he have with me I thought? I started rechecking all the work I had done in my head while I worked here to make sure I hadn't upset him on any matter.
"It's good to see you, Ms. Ivantika..." he said and his eyes traveled down to my open blouse.
I internally cringed and hurriedly buttoned it up and put my jacket back on. I then got up to shake his hand and offered him a seat. And then we both sat down.
"Oh you didn't have to do that. You must feel so uncomfortable with that on right now... But let's come to the point shall we? A group of very important people will be coming to visit this company and I wanted to personally select a few people to welcome them and tell them about how we operate. Now I know you are not someone who falls under the senior category but you have been able to solve many cases and upheld your position in a highly manner. You and the others who are chosen will all receive very specific instructions all the way from how you should treat them to what you will be wearing on those days. This will take place for 4 days and your pending work should be finished before those days or will be handed over to someone else for them to complete. Do you understand all of this?" he calmly said while scrolling through his iPad.
"Yes, sir. May I know who these people are and when this will occur?" I asked.
"That should not concern you and this will occur in two days. And under no circumstances should you tell them anything written outside of the given list. Or act in away deemed inappropriate or unprofessional. They are assessing us and keep in mind: our superiors, so we should give them any reason to believe we are not worthy of their time or below their expectations. If you have any more questions get them through my secretary." he said and then gave me a weird smile before leaving the room.
I leaned forward and crossed my arms over the desk and put my head down. I guess I would be having to stay overnight to be on track. Having to hand over my work to someone else because of my carelessness was something I promised myself I would never want to do.
I looked over to my desktop that had my calendar and went over the things I had to complete. Before starting I : took off my jacket again, rolled up my sleeves, pulled my hair out of my bun (it was starting to hurt), re-adjusted the skirt I was wearing and took the pills Eva had given me for my mark.
I've so got thiss I said while yawning to myself. 😴
