Celeste POV

I tackled Leona to the ground, 0ur bodies a blur of entangled limbs. She was stronger than I'd anticipated and put up surprising resistance. It still was no match for me.

My lips were curled into a snarl as I managed to straddle Leona. With careful control, my canines grew and my hands shifted just enough so that my fingertips looked more like claws than human digits. I wanted blood – Leona's blood. I wanted to feel the warmth of it as it spilled out of her body, splaying across my bare hands before hitting the ground.

I wrapped my clawed hands around her throat, purposefully digging my claws into her flesh. She grabbed onto my arms at first angry and then desperate. When get nails pierced my skin, it was like a small pinprick to the pure, unadulterated hatred I felt toward her. Even though she couldn't read my thoughts, I saw it in her face when she understood the depth of my emotions. She realized the graveness of her error. Out of all the people to antagonize, to try to manipulate, Leona had chosen me, who was immune to her power.

As her face began to turn brick red, I saw flashes in my mind. Timothy was right by my side, watching silently. His face was unreadable, but I knew him well enough to know he was relieved. I tightened my grip to on Leona's neck and felt something crumple beneath the weight. Her skin was turning from red to mottled to purple. I growled, more human than animal.

As Leona's life drained, my mind began to shift. Beyond Timothy, I could have sworn I saw others – Augustus's stormy grey eyes were right behind him. Philomene. And a woman with warm brown eyes, rich like chocolate drops. Had Leona gotten all of them too? Or was it some trick by Giovanna? The sight worried me. I needed to hurry. Needed to get back to my brother and help him.

A streak of gold lit up the corner of my vision and I narrowly dodged it, moving my arms just a moment before the energy blast could have blown them off. Leona shoved me away, gasping for air and clutching her throat as she began to crawl. I grabbed a handful of her hair and yanked her head back. Another spark of gold came barreling toward me, forcing me to release her.

Timothy's presence in my mind increased, filling me to the brim with his power. I was hesitant to take my eyes off of Leona, but I knew those energy blasts were coming from Myra. Concern for Lili's safety threatened to break my concentration just as Timothy showed me a bird's eye view of their fight.

Lili was holding her own, much better than I had when I'd fought Myra all that time ago. Myra was aggressive, with the skill and swagger of a well seasoned kickboxer, whereas Liliwas graceful and swift, like an assassin. She dodge every blow with ease. The average person probably would have been winded by now, having only struck air the entire fight. But Myra was far from average. She was a ball of pure energy, her eyes glowing a vibrant gold. Her dark wavy tresses were expertly tied back so that strands of hair didn't fall in her face. An unmistakable smirk was on her face, like she was having the time of her life. She was in her element. If Myra wasn't actively trying to end the life of the woman I loved, I might have called her beautiful.
