He's not Dave

"Why are you following me?" The Dave-like man asked. Seems like you followed him for quite a while without realizing.
"I'm looking for Dave." You respond bluntly.
"Well I'm not Dave, okay. I'm Da-VID. Dave is a pathetic nerd with an ugly voice."
David actually doesn't sound too different from Dave, so this comment is actually pretty self-deprecating. Regardless, you continue to follow him, for he clearly seems to know who Dave is, unlike you.
David opens up a manhole, which leads into an underground stairway with a wheelchair ramp adjacent to it. The ramp was quite steep though, and didn't look even remotely safe. You make this point clear to David, but he simply brushes it off and rolls down anyway. You follow him, and naturally he falls flat on his face.
"Why are you still following me?" David asks.
You shrug.
A little Dave-like monster rolls over and helps David off the ground. He notices you and sniffs you for a bit. He then proceeds to take a bite of your arm, much to David's dismay.
"Algebratrix! Hands off the kid!" David takes out a spray bottle and sprays the monster with water.
As David scolds the child, you look around the room a bit. The underground area is dark and cold, made entirely of rocks. The ground's covered with bits of machinery and chemicals...failed experiments. The walls are crowded with diagrams and notes, though there's so many that they're illegible.
"What is this mess?" The words slip your lips unintentionally.
"I'm glad you asked," David sits down at a desk. "Bambi told me Dave is trying to find ways to communicate across The Dreamscape. But I can't let him do that...not before me at least!"
David begins to pick up papers. You assist him, placing the sheets on his desk.
"I set up a lab down here for peace and quiet. Unfortunately this area was occupied by some strange creatures created by the higher ups. I managed to get Dale out but the trixes are here to stay."
You nod blankly, continuing to place papers onto the desk. Then you read something that stops you in your tracks...two words that you'd never seen before, yet they seem to spark terror in your heart.
"Deletion pit"
The text then goes on about theories around said pit, describing what it could possibly look like. You know exactly what it looks like though; A void much darker than the ones you had floated through, a realm full of the desperate cries of innocent creatures, scrapped for the sake of "storage". You became one of those cries, a worthless monster waiting for death-
"Kid! Snap out of it kid," David says, tapping on your hat in the most obnoxious way possible. "I thought you were helping me clean."
You rub your head. Those memories don't feel like your own. What even is a deletion pit? You were just born a couple of hours ago, there's no way those memories are yours.
You set down the sheet of paper and begin hovering up the stairway.
"Where the hell are you going? I told you to help me clean!" David shouts from below.
You don't know where you're going. You're just following your impulses. Too bad those impulses seem to inconvenience your new acquaintance.
