MK'S POV
"Red Son, wait," I call out as he runs down the hall and out the door. I hear him start his car and drive off. I fall to my knees. I don't even care that I'm stuck here, that he was my ride and he just left me. All I care about is that he's gone. He's gone and I never got to explain myself.
"Hey, you ok?" Mei asks from behind me.
"No," I respond as I shed a tear.
"What happened?" She asks.
"It's a long story,"
"I have time. Let's get lunch,"
"Lunch?" I check the time. It's 12 already. And suddenly I'm aware of my pounding head and broken liver. I feel woozy.
"Let's go," she says, already walking to the garage.
I barley stumble after her, fighting the pounding in my head. We get into her car, and drive down the road.
"Where are we going?" I ask.
"This cafe. It's called Cafe Rosé," she replies.
We walk into the restaurant and I'm struck by the smell of sweet pastries and coffee. We sit down at a table for two by a window. A waiter walks by.
"Hi, my names Tim and I'll be serving you," he says.
"Hi Tim," I say with a small smile.
"Here are some menus," he says as he places the papers on our table.
"Thanks," Mei says.
I look at the menus, and my head spins. I fight through the throbbing in my head to see some of the options. I order coffee and strawberry pancakes. Mei orders a Frappuccino and caramel waffles. Tim leaves, and we sit in silence.
"So, are you gonna tell me what happened?" Mei finally says.
"So basically I told him I wasn't gay because I thought he wouldn't like me but I like him and I think he liked me so then we went to this party and both got drunk because we were sad and then he kissed me and next think I know I'm waking up with him," I say in a hurry.
"That's...a lot," Mei says, fiddling with her napkin.
"Yeah, it's kinda a mess, and the worst part is he's my roommate," I say.
"Ugh, that's gonna be awkward," she winces.
"Here's your food," Tim says as he places down our plates and coffee, "do you happen to be students at UC Kingsley? We have a student discount."
"Yeah, we both attend," Mei says.
"That's great, what do you major in?"
"Music," I say.
"That's cool, I do too," Tim says.
"Cool," I respond.
"See you around...?"
"MK,"
"See you around, MK."
I smile, feeling a little less terrible.
"Looks like you move on fast," Mei says with a smirk.
I immediately feel terrible again. "Ew, no, he's not even my type."
"Suit yourself," Mei says, digging into her waffles.
I drink my coffee. The pancakes are amazing. I almost feel like myself. We finish, and Mei takes me back to the dorms.
I walk up the stairs and make my way to my room. I open the door to see all the furniture gone. The room is empty, spare one piece of paper on the ground. I read it.
Dear MK,
I'm very sorry for my actions. I can't apologize enough for my actions, and I know you don't want to be friends, so instead I moved out. Thanks for being my roommate.
-Red Son
There are tear stains on the paper, some from me and some from him. I can't believe it. He's gone. I check his room. Sure enough, it's empty.
I can't do anything right. I can't even keep a friendship for two weeks. It's my fault this all happened. If I had not been such a coward, if I had just told him, he wouldn't have left. He would be here and I would be happy.
But he's not here. And I'm not happy.
