I have to tell Yuna about my feelings for her

I have to tell Yuna about my feelings for her. It has to be today.

I've been telling her to be confident with Yeonjun all this time. I have to take my own advice now, even if this changes our relationship forever.

I think I've checked the whole school looking for her. It was our lunch break, and I hadn't seen her anywhere. I checked the lunchroom and classrooms. I even asked another girl to look in the bathroom for me.

The only other place I haven't checked was the roof. I headed towards the staircase and started walking up the flights.

Suddenly the room filled with voices. The echoes bounced off the walls, and I could hear the voices perfectly. It was Yuna and Yeojin's. Their voices were loud, and they were play fighting.

I don't want to interrupt them, but this is my only chance.

I started to walk closer but stopped once I heard my name.

"So, how was your date with Kai?" Yuna asked softly.

I wasn't expecting this. My feet stood frozen, but I dropped to the stairs to hide. Why am I hiding?

"My date? It was really nice. Kai is a sweetheart. You were right."

Yuna clapped. "I told you. He's amazing. What did you guys do?"

"We went to the movies, and then he walked me home."

Yuna made an 'ooo' sound with her mouth. "Sounds fun."

"Yeah, and then I kissed him."

I could hear Yuna's gasp. "You KISSED HIM!" Yuna raised her voice.

"Yeah...I'm sorry, does that bother you?"

"Why do you think it would bother me?" Yuna asked, sounding offended.

"I know you and Kai had a thing going on."

I almost gasped, but I covered my mouth. It really seems like everyone except Yuna, and I think that.

"A thing? Kai and I have nothing."

"Are you sure?" Yeojin asked alertly.

I thought I misheard her, but Yuna then repeated it. "Don't listen to the rumors! Nothing is going on with us!"

Yeojin shook her head, "I wasn't talking about the rumors."

"So why would you assume Kai and I have a thing?"

I leaned in, trying to catch Yeojin's response. "You guys are always around each other and even hang out on days out of school. To be honest, I was really surprised when you introduced him to me."

"Yeah, but it's not like that. I don't care about Kai at all."

My stomach turned. I never thought Yuna would ever say such a thing out loud. How could she be this cruel to me? After everything we've been through. I thought we were at least friends.

"So, wait for a second. You're saying you don't like him?"

"Wait, I didn't mean that! You see, Kai- he's like-" Yuna started, then stopped herself. "I-I don't know. We're friends."

There was a pause, and Yuna sighed before continuing. "The two of us just happen to have a lot in common. As I said before, he was helping me out with something. He also likes to go out of his way to make me feel better, but that's just because he's a good guy. He's always been by my side whenever I need him, but that's it. He motivates me, but we're not dating or anything." She started going off on a tangent, just like she always does when she's nervous. "I wouldn't have set you up with him if I liked him. I promise! Kai and I are just friends and will only ever be friends.

"So, nothing has ever happened between you two?"

"Nothing. I promise. He means nothing to me."

I felt my lips curl downwards. My brain was telling me to leave the room, but my foot stayed planted on the ground. How could she say nothing had ever happened between us? We even kissed.

There was a silence shared between Yuna and Yeojin. It made me wonder what their facial expression looked like.

Yeojin sighed."I see. Don't you think that's a little hurtful to say, though?" I lifted my eyebrows, surprised. Yeojin is such a considerate person, the complete opposite of Yuna. Not that Yuna was selfish, but Yuna wasn't big on social clues.

"What's hurtful?" Yuna asked.

"Saying Kai means nothing to you. The way you described him showed that he means a lot. You've become a lot happier after meeting him."

"I did?" Yuna sounded confused.

"Yeah, just after you started hanging out with Kai, you became more confident and less closed off. After being with someone for a month straight, you would assume they would mean something to you.

"That's not what I meant. He does mean something to me. I-I just," She stuttered. "I don't know."

"I think the way you were talking about him just a second ago proves that you...never mind." Yeojin paused and giggled. "You don't have to explain yourself. It doesn't matter how you feel. I'm happy you and Kai are just friends.

"W-why does that make you happy?" Yuna's tone of voice turned annoyed.

I frowned, unsure how to feel about what I overheard. Something inside me stirred. I tried to remain silent in my shocked state. I couldn't take this anymore and left the staircase.

I shouldn't have got my hopes up.
