Sometime Early 2003
Laura Peters paced back and forth in the bathroom. "No, no, no, no." She muttered to herself. She looked down at the positive pregnancy test with worry. "It's not possible." she mumbled. She sat down on the toilet, holding her head in her hands. "I gotta call Emily." She sighed, standing up and walking into her bedroom to call her old friend. With shaky hands, she dialed the familiar number before hitting the call button. "Hello?" The kind voice of Emily Patterson asked.
"Emily, it's Laura...I have a problem." Laura rushed out. "Oh, dear, what's wrong?" Emily softly asked. "C-Can I come over so we can talk?" Laura asked. "Of course you can." Emily replied. "Thanks. I'll be over in twenty minutes." Laura said, hanging up the phone. Laura shoved her phone into her pocket and grabbed her purse. "Where are you going?" Joseph asked, watching his wife rush towards the front door. "Out. A friend needs something." She replied, before walking out the door. Laura took a shaky breath as she pulled out of the driveway.

At the sound of three knocks at the door, Emily Patterson rushed over, welcoming Laura Peters with a warm hug. Laura tightly wrapped her arms around her friend as she started to cry. "Shh. Shh. It's okay." Emily whispered, smoothing down Laura's hair. "Wanna tell me what happened?" Emily softly asked. Laura pulled away from the hug, wiping her tears as she nodded. Emily walked Laura over to the couch, wrapping one of her arms around her friend's shoulder for comfort.
"So the last few days I haven't been feeling the best and I just brushed it off, you know, thinking it was just some bug or something." Laura choked on a sob as she paused. "B-But then-then I...realized I was late. I didn't really think anything of that either because sometimes periods can be late. But I just had this feeling. This feeling like...I don't know." Laura shook her head, wiping some of her tears.
"Anyways, I took a test and...it came back positive!" Laura cried, leaning into Emily's side. "B-But Joseph and I haven't, you know, in months." Laura stated. Emily furrowed her brows, looking down at her friend. "Then how...?" She quietly asked. Laura sniffled, sitting up straight. "Last month, um, I went out with a few friends to celebrate one of the friends' engagement." Laura started. Emily shifted to face her friend, grabbing her hands.
"I met this guy. I mean, I was three shots deep, but I started talking with him. He seemed nice and one thing led to another and well...you get the picture." Laura muttered, looking down. "Did you at least get his name?" Emily asked, rubbing her thumb against the back of Laura's hand. Laura nodded. "Caleb. That's all I got." She said. Emily nodded, as she wiped some of Laura's stray tears.
"Emily, what am I gonna do?" Laura asked, just above a whisper. "I-I can't tell Joseph. You know how he gets." She added. Emily sighed, pulling Laura into a hug. "I'm not sure. But Laura, you'll have to tell him eventually. I mean, it's gonna get a little questionable in a few months." Emily replied, running her fingers through Laura's hair. Laura sighed, nodding. "I know." She muttered. For the next hour, Emily held onto Laura tightly, helping her calm down.
