Amid continuous boredom and heat that made teenagers want to nap in cold, dark bedrooms, Saturday came. Taehyun was sitting alone in his room that morning. High temperature discouraged him to do his daily workout session. He could only scroll through Twitter and read some sports news that came his way.
Taehyun knew that that day Beomgyu and Yeonjun weren't coming to his house as they seemed to have super secret plans with each other. Kai on the other hand wasn't responding to his texts with anything more than emoticons since the previous day.
Sighing he decided to go to the kitchen and fix breakfast for himself. His father wasn't home. Taehyun didn't know whether he left early for work or pulled an all-nighter at work and hadn't come home yet. Even though they would see each other not so often, the father was still admired by his son. Taehyun was grateful that his dad worked so diligently to afford a great, trouble-free life for the family. That's why he cherished every moment he got to spend with him.
It was Saturday midday, so it seemed his mother was doing grocery shopping already. An uneasy feeling appeared in his chest. He was bored and didn't have anyone to contact. He stopped making his sandwich and reached again for the phone. He chose Huening Kai's number and dialed it. The call was neither rejected nor the device was turned off. Knowing Kai's kind personality and the fact that he always has his phone on high volume, he knew his friend was ignoring him.
He angrily took a bite of bread and went to dress up. After a few minutes, he was ready to leave the house and visit his dear friend at his place. One thing Kang Taehyun hated was dishonesty. And not one, but three of his friends weren't being honest with him at the same time.
He skated through the neighborhood, the sun was beating down, and sweat appeared on his forehead. It took him around twenty minutes to stand on Kai's porch and finally ring a bell. The one who opened the door was Kai's little sister Bahiyyih. Long brown hair was now quite messy and she stood in her pajamas, she was shocked to see Taehyun. She quickly adjusted her hair.
"Hi, Hiyyih, is Kai home?" He asked, still panted being tired from skating in the sun.
"He's taking a shower! Come in!" She sounded hurried, but politely opened the door to let the boy in.
"Thanks, I couldn't reach him." He explained, he left the skateboard leaning on a wall and came inside the house. "Did I wake you up?" Taehyun chuckled looking again at Hiyyih's pajamas.
"No, I was just watching a movie. You know, lazy morning." She tried to laugh to conceal her embarrassment.
"I won't disturb you, can I wait in his room?" he asked only because of manners, but he was already on his way upstairs, so the girl just nodded and left to continue watching a movie.
Taehyun headed straight to Kai's room. It wasn't messy, but on the bed, there were all kinds of plushies, and the shelves were full of figurines and comic books, which made the room look painfully colorful to him. He sat on the swivel chair and took one of the figurines into his hand to play with while waiting for Kai.
Kai was the easiest to break out of everyone.
He entered the room not long after, he was already dressed up, but he hasn't dried his hair yet, so it was dripping water. A scream echoed in the room when he saw Taehyun sitting at the desk with a dark expression.
"Hi, Taehyun. Why are you here?" He tried to calm down his racing heart. His body froze and was unable to take another step forward.
"What's going on?" He began calmly, rotating the figurine with one hand. It looked quite expensive and valuable.
"W-what do you mean? Nothing! Everything's fine!" Kai claimed, but his high tone and shaking eyes were telling otherwise.
"I'll break it."
