A pair of hands gently shook me awake. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, seeing Vanya sat on the couch beside me. It was dark, but in the dim light of the moon, I could vaguely make out her expression. It was one of nervousness.

"Hey, is everything okay?" I asked her. She managed a weak smile, nodding reassuringly.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," She nodded again, though I wasn't convinced, "I just need to talk to you about something..."

I was confused as to why whatever she had to say, had to be said in the middle of the night, but I didn't question her. I waited patiently as she inhaled deeply and exhaled with a shaky breath.

"So, I've already told most of my family, but..." She trailed off, picking at the skin around her fingernails, "Since you and Luther were being held hostage, you both still don't know."
I nodded and smiled encouragingly. She was still evidently nervous, though what about, I wasn't sure.
"Well, I know my family's all fine with it. And I know Luther will be too," She explained, "But I don't know about you. SInce it's not really accepted in the 60s..."
She added the last part after seeing my confused expression.
"Alright, so...I guess I've just never really felt like...me? I don't know. I always felt so strange in my body, but I thought it was just like that for everyone, y'know?" I nodded as she continued, still confused, "Anyway, well...I think I've finally found myself. It's not just the hair that's changed."
"What else is it, Vanya?" I asked.
She took another shaky breath, "It's Viktor now..."

Viktor. But that's a guy's- Ohhh... I see what was going on. 'Viktor', I replayed the name over and over in my head. It suited him. I liked it.

A wide grin spread across my face, as I flung my arms around him, "That's great, Viktor! I'm happy for you!"
He let out a relieved sigh, wrapping his arms around me. "God, I was just so worried..."
"Listen, as long as you're happy, who cares what I think? But, for the record, I love it. And it suits you," I smiled reassuringly, "You had nothing to be worried about."
We stayed like that for a minute, in a warm embrace, until he eventually let go.
"I'll let you get some sleep now," He smiled, "Sorry for waking you."
"Don't worry about it." I grinned back, laying back down on the couch.

I fell asleep again, just as fast as before, though after that I didn't dream anymore. That was a relief. I'd already woken twice before Viktor woke me, panting heavily in a cold sweat. Nightmares weren't all that common for me, but since Dad's death, they've become more frequent. Not that that's surprising at all.

The sun shining through the window woke me up again. For the first time in a long time, I'd actually woken up feeling refreshed, and not like I was about to collapse from exhaustion any minute. I had Viktor to thank for that. I could only assume that his happy news had distracted my brain enough to prevent me from anymore nightmares.
