Morning coffee, there is really nothing like it. I take a travel mug out of the cupboard for both Kasey and I as we both finish off the ones we made this morning. Just an ongoing flow of caffeine for the morning.

Wednesday brings about the conference meetings of all major partners in our company, it's where we are to meet with a bunch of over-barring and opinionated headhunters who believe that two 27 year old girls couldn't possibly know a thing or two about business.

These meetings are held once a quarter, and we continuously have to prove ourself. Each meeting offering absolutely no adjustments, so there's nothing to improve on, which is why I think they are pointless, however, Hector, the worst of the bad batch, likes to stroke his ego and pretend he's overseeing everything here.

"Do we have to?" Kasey groans as we walk the 6 blocks from my apartment to the office.

"Unfortunately" I respond, with the same level of enthusiasm.

"I heard Damion will be there" she coos.

I glare at her, "can we try and have one conversation that doesn't revolve around my love life" I moan.

"A) you have to have a love life, to be able to talk about one and B) Damion is hot."

I shake my head in disbelief at her. She's a classic.

"He is, but he's also married" I remind her.

Damion and I had a fling a few months ago, I was kept well in the dark about his home life and the removal of his wedding ring before he'd come into the office became a regular occurrence of his.

He tried to tell me it was all a misunderstanding, that he was unhappy in his marriage and she was just as open about the relationship as he was.

Save to say, I wasn't staying around to find out. Now every time we have to see him I can feel his glare on me the entire meeting. It's really unfortunate I love my job, otherwise I think I would have been out a long time ago.

"Yeah, that kind of stuffed things up didn't it?" She adds as we arrive at the building doors.

"Yeah, I prefer them single" I tease, holding the door open for her and then following her inside. Each one of our briefcases snuggled under each of our arms. All the reports and calculations from this last quarter all organised just as they like.

Upon arrival at the 6th floor, we let ourselves out into the entry way, greeting our reception staff as we walk down the hallway. I still a quick glance at our company sign in the lobby "Brase". A little combination of our names, and it makes me so proud of how far we've come, and how much we e been able to neuter a friendship and partnership separately.

As expected, the conference room is lined with all the business leaders of our field in their expensive suits and suit sets, each woman accessorised with a Louis Vuitton or Chanel.

"Shall we?" I offer to Kasey as we make our way towards the office.

"Are you giving me a choice?" She teases as she begins opening the glass doors, her business face mask taking shape on her face.

"Never" I mock whisper behind her as we both enter the room.
