Chapter 1

(Brittany's POV)

As I stood upon that ledge above the sea I felt my mind clear itself while calmness flooded me like the waves did to the mysterious caves below. I breathed in the crisp, cool, sea air and let the wind carry my long dark brown hair up to float around near my head. I had been coming here ever since I was able to leave the house alone.

My thoughts were interrupter by a loud whistling sound that seemed to come from below. I looked of the edge curiously with caution but when a swooping sound came from behind me and then something hit my back. Startled I stumbled, a little to far: loosing my balance along with the grip my feet had to the ground: I tumbled forward over the edge.

I fell with a scream, my arms out stretched in a useless attempt at reaching for something to grab on. Everything was happening so fast yet so slow as my eminent death came closer. The thought of death swept my mind and fear and sadness tingled around my body. Suddenly a real tingling sensation travelled around my muscles like a racecar on its track: a track that lead straight to my upper back. The sensation just continued to do laps between my two shoulder blades.

The sound of the crashing waves grasped my attention away from the energy that buzzed around me. I flipped over and looked down at the waves that would surely drown me. Everything seemed to be going in slow motion as the waves started to slosh up and into those mysterious caves that opened at the base of the tall cliffs.

The final wish came to mind the one most ask when they are going to die. I wished so hard in my head that I wouldn't die as the spray of the waves sprinkled across my face. I close my eyes tight and wished my dreams were real: the ones, which felt so real, the ones where I had wings and could fly. Oh how I wished I could right now as those images flashed through my mind.

When the water never came I opened my eyes in curiosity to see that I was just hovering there above the crashing waves that were currently reseeding back into the ocean. I was so confused, how could I just be hovering here?

"Brittany!" someone yelled my name from above.

I looked upward but instead of my eyes meeting someone they met two white feathery things flapping above me. When realization struck and I found out that these strange things were what were keeping me from falling.

A shrill shriek of surprise escaped my mouth. What was going on? I panicked and stupidly flailed about and the wings stopped moving and I fell into the so very close ocean. Surely now I was going to die!

The waves were just about to crash over me when suddenly the water froze. Well it didn't freeze but stopped moving. I was shocked and scared I couldn't move. This had to be a dream this couldn't be happening!

I screamed as the water around me started to move and lift into the air. I was really starting to freak out but before I could do anything stupid again my feet were back on the ground back up on the cliff. Standing on the cliff was a boy holding his hands out and a look of pure concentration plastered in his ocean coloured eyes and a bead of sweat trickling down his gorges face from his slightly shaggy dark brown hair.

He put his hands down and the water dispersed from around me. The stranger walked over to me but cautiously taking one step at a time.

"Brittany?" he asked quietly as he continued to come slowly closer, "Brittany, are, are you OK?" he spoke almost as slow as he walked. How do they know my name?

I felt so weird so unstable and different. As he reached his hand out to me I jumped back, tripped and fell on my butt, but continued to scramble backwards because I didn't want his hand touching me. My backward scrambling stopped when I ran into something hard. That something clearly hand hands though because they grabbed my shoulders and I screamed in surprise.
