LECLERC AND VERSTAPPEN: IS THEIR RIVALRY SOMETHING TO BE WORRIED ABOUT?
it's no surprise that there's a rivalry between teams, but fans have been wondering if the severity of the rivalry between isabel leclerc( lamborghini ) and max verstappen( red bull ) is something to be worried about.
since 2019 when leclerc was offered a seat in formula 1, a rivalry has picked up between red bull and lamorghini — but not because of the teams as a whole. leclerc and verstappen had a collision during the monaco grand prix, which sparked up an intense argument between the two. prior to this, leclerc and verstappen had barely spoken and had both stated in a press conference that they were going to keep it that way — much to the dismay of their pr managers.
both drivers are infamous for their explosive tempers, something that has led them to exceptionally bad publicity. despite the fact that they are two of the most talented racers of the newer f1 generation, their bad image is something that their teams have not taken lightly. alicia taylors, principal of lamborghini, has put out a statement about this growing issue. christian horner of red bull refused to comment.
"isabel is one of the most promising drivers of the new generation and we are incredibly lucky to have her," said alicia taylors in a statement after an incidentat the 2021 azerbaijan grand prix. "her image is something that is being constantly worked on, but you cannot deny her talent."
the real reason why fans have been worried is because of a clip that has surfaced on twitter of leclerc and verstappen. during the abu dhabi grand prix, the main race was between the young drivers as they fought for the world championship title. with leclerc in p1 and verstappen in p2, he went to overtake her and their tires collided, running her off the track and into the barrier. verstappen publicly claimed it was an accident, but some have seen it to be purposeful as he went on to win the world championship title and leclerc dropped a significant amount of points with a dnf. the twitter clip is of leclerc roughly shoving verstappen in the empty red bull garage after as people were leaving the paddock. he was clearly yelling back, but the clip had no audio to determine what was being said.
going into the 2022 season, there have been rumours that leclerc and verstappen may lose their seats because of the bad publicity they are giving themselves and their team. further, some are even worried that all this violence could turn particularly deadly between the two if their dangerous driving keeps affecting each other. they have been in many incidents already in the past few years, and every race seems to get worse.
