"SO," EMILIA WALKED ALONGSIDE isabel in the nearly empty paddock in belgium. "you're telling me—""here we go," isabel muttered.
"you're telling me," emilia cleared her throat, "that you can suddenly be around him all the time now that the deal is off, but when you were forced to share a hotel room, you couldn't stand him—"
"that's not what i said," isabel shook her head. "you paraphrased."
"no," emilia disagreed. "i inferred." isabel gave up and let her continue. "no, seriously, this is the ultimate character development. and he let you meet his cats. this is way more than you think it is."
isabel shrugged. emilia kinda had a point, not that she would admit it, though. "i don't want to deal with it, em. i didn't mean for this to happen and now that is has . . . i don't know."
emilia stopped once they were outside the motorhome. "if this is supposed to happen, it'll sort itself out. just don't shut him out," she then hugged isabel. "i know i haven't known you long, but i think this is the most lively i've seen you. clearly it's a good thing."
she didn't have anything to say to that, but she had listened and nodded anyway. isabel couldn't form an answer but, to some extent, she had to agree with emilia because it was the truth. "i guess," isabel nodded before smiling at her friend. "i'll see you later, yes?"
"noah and i will be at the garage," emilia smiled warmly. "good luck!"
THERE WAS SOMETHING DIFFERENT about walking through the lamborghini motorhome this time.
almost every employee stared at isabel like she was someone from a different team instead of their driver. it was uncomfortable.
the worst part was that tori couldn't be in the room for the meeting. she would be debriefed after so she could fix up anything with the media, but that was it. it was just isabel, alicia, and leonardo.
it's fine, she told herself, her hands balled into fists in her jacket pockets. it is done. isabel opened the doors to one of the conference rooms and stepped inside. alicia and leonardo were already inside. it felt like monaco all over again.
isabel said nothing as she sat down in the seat across the table from them. it was silent for a few moments until alicia spoke.
"good morning," alicia nodded her head once.
"can we get on with it?" isabel asked impatiently. "i've got things to sort out."
"alright," leonardo said. "as you know, we've issued the statements and got your paperwork sorted. we just need you to sign it."
