AGE NINE

I sigh, as I sit down on a spare chair away from the crowd. Today was meant to be my day, my birthday party.

Yet my parents somehow managed to turn it into some business party.

I look around watching all the adults mingle. All of them being some type of businessman, politician or some high profile person.

Today's the second most worst day of my life.

The worst was when my parents actually forgot about my birthday. Last year and went of a cruise with my brothers instead.

Saying I was too young to join them.

My brothers, Jake and Steven are only a few years older then me. I begged and begged mother and father to let me come, but they didn't budge.

I was only eight.

So when they told me this year they'll be throwing me a birthday party I was ecstatic.

I was overwhelmed with all the themes, invitation and the food. I couldn't wait.

Yet here I am on the verge of tears as everyone pushes me aside and fuss over my family.

The kids here are soo mean, and none of my friends from school are here.

My parents want me to move to a private school next year so this was my only chance.

"Miss Watts," my nanny and our house keeper says behind me.

"Not now Rose, and stop calling me that." I say looking down at my feet.

I feel her standing in front of me not even a second later.

"You have a letter Miss Watts." She says in her sweet tone.

My head shoots up as I look at her confused. "A letter? By who?"

She places a folded little white posted note in my palm. I look at the posted note with curiosity. Who could it be?

"Read it and you'll find our Miss Watts." Rose says before joining the other staff members as they hand out drinks.

I open the note and start reading.

NOTE
