chapter 17

you were in the forest, practicing with your bow. you took an arrow and quickly set it up then released it, almost hitting your target right in the middle.

"damnit!" you hissed, aggravated it didn't land straight in the middle. you took another arrow and positioned it, ready to release until you heard a noise. you turned around, facing your bow to where the noise came from.

you then heard the breathing of a loud oxygen mask and put your bow down, putting the arrow away. "spider you can come out. i know it's you. your not very quiet with your mask." a man then stepped out but it wasn't spider.

you quickly got an arrow back out and aimed it. the man put his hands up in a hurry, "i'm not armed!" you just drew the string further back. "you can put it down. i'm one of jakes friends, norm. i was taking samples and i noticed you with a bow. it's unusual for reef people to use another weapon other than a spear. i was just watching i swear. i have no type of weapon on me other than a dagger to cut vines and shit down." norm said.

you put your bow down again, sighing. "how come your not in your avatar body?" you asked, remembering jake said something about norm typically being in that form. "it's easier to take samples this way. i'm closer to the ground." you nodded and analyzed him from afar. "well you can continue. sorry for scaring you." you said then walked off.

once you got closer to the village you soon saw a huge object. you stood there, analyzing the big flying object until someone walked up to you, it was lo'ak. "did norm give you a scare?" lo'ak asked with a laugh. "yes, he did. i thought it was spider. what is this thing?" you asked nodding to the object you were analyzing just a few minutes ago.

"oh that's a helicopter. it's how norm and max get here since they don't have ikrans and it's easier for them because of all their equipment." lo'ak explained. "oh, and we can trust these two.. right?" you asked. "of course. they've been here since the beginning. they helped my dad back then when they were all still human. but they've been at every important event. they're kind of like family."

"norm seemed nice, i was being cautious. i probably scared him more with having a big arrow in his face and all." you said, laughing to yourself. "yeah, probably." lo'ak said, joining your laughter.

"tsireya give it back!" you and lo'ak turned your attention to the voice and saw ao'nung chasing tsireya. you and lo'ak saw them both coming closer and moved out the way to let them pass.

"you don't even wear it! it's a useless little necklace!" the girl said coming to a stop. "if it's so useless then give it back to me! and i don't wear it anymore because i have a new one, but i still like that one!" the necklace was the tooth necklace he used to wear all the time before you gave him a new one. they kept bickering back and forth as you and lo'ak sat down and continued watching.

"ao, just let her wear the necklace." you said, still laughing. tsireya looked at ao'nung with a smirk while ao'nung just looked at you. "i never ask you for anything." the girl said crossing her arms. "liar! you always ask for stuff!" ao'nung screamed.

there was a moment of silence before ao'nung spoke. "fine you can wear it. just please don't break it." tsireya smiled as she thanked him and ran off while ao'nung mumbled to himself.

"see? it wasn't that hard." you said with a small smile. "uh huh." he grumbled as he walked towards you and sat down. "what necklace even was it?" lo'ak asked. "the tooth one that i always wore." you looked at his neck to see which necklace he had on and noticed it was the one you gave him.

norm then walked by you guys and lo'ak noticed him. "hey norm!" lo'ak said with a wave. norm stopped and looked towards you three. "oh hey! also sorry again about earlier uh..?" "marali. and it's fine, i know i gave you a scare with having an arrow pointed towards your face." ao'nung looked at you with confusion, "what happened?"

"i was practicing and he was around the area taking samples. i thought it was spider because i heard the oxygen mask but i saw it was him and i pointed my arrow at him since i didn't know him at the time." you said.

"yeah, and you're ao'nung right?" norm asked pointing towards the teal boy. "uh yeah, how'd you know?" "jake told me. he was saying you and your sister were helping them around the island." ao'nung looked at lo'ak then back at norm. "well more tsireya but yeah." he let out with a laugh.

"well it was nice meeting you two properly, i gotta go get these back." he said pointing to a bag. you all waved back as he walked off waving. "well he's nice." you said with a smile. "yeah! he always has been." lo'ak replied.

you continued to smile at lo'ak then looked off into the sea. "i'm just wondering is your village like this one?" lo'ak asked. your head turned back towards him, "yeah, pretty much. i mean the layout is a tiny bit different but it's pretty much the same."

"all our villages look the same just about. does the forest villages look different from one another?" ao'nung asked. "well one, i lived in a cave my whole life. i never got to really see what it was like. and a lot of clans came to stay with ours after the first war according to my parents." "so you're used to a lot of people huh?" you asked.

"mhm. humans too, they're actually not so bad if you meet the right ones that is." "i feel like spider doesn't really like me." you said. lo'ak looked at you with a confused expression, "huh? what do you mean?" "i don't know, if we end up making eye contact it doesn't even last for a second because he looks away."

"maybe he's just nervous. you guys are like really tall. he's told me that ao'nung and tsireya scare him." ao'nung looked at him, offended. "i'm not that bad." "dude, you're tall. like really fucking tall." you laughed as ao'nung rolled his eyes.

"but he's never really said anything about you. he's said one thing about rotxo though." "and that was?" ao'nung asked.

"that he was jealous of him or something. he noticed how close him and kiri are and is apparently scared she's just gonna ditch him because we're all like family to him, but they're like really close."

"someone jealous of rotxo? that's new. nobody has ever really had any reason to be jealous of him but things change i guess." ao'nung said. you looked off to the side, a little upset but lo'ak noticed.

"hey, it's probably just because he doesn't really know you. and none of us knows you like ao'nung does so we can't really give him any opinion y'know?" you gave him a small smile and nodded as you felt a comforting feeling on your shoulder from ao'nung.

you looked over at him and he smiled at you and you smiled back then rested your head on his shoulder. lo'ak made a fake gagging sound as ao'nung rolled his eyes and you laughed. suddenly tuk came running up and immediately started tugging at lo'ak.

"cmon!!" the girl said tugging her brother. "what? what are we doing?" tuk stopped tugging him and just looked at him. "i wanna do your hair. kiri went somewhere, mom and dad are helping norm and max, and spiders hair is not the best to style.." she said which made ao'nung chuckle. "and what if i was busy?"

tuk looked at him with a straight face. "you are literally just sitting here being a third wheel. i don't think you're busy." lo'ak was a little taken aback but just sighed and got up letting tuk drag him. ao'nung was laughing his ass off and lo'ak flipped him off making sure tuk couldn't see.

"that child has no filter. it's funny though." you said. "i'm glad i don't have anyone like that in my family that's like that." he said, leaning back and letting his back hit the sand. "just wait. your little brother may have a thing for doing hair." you said with a giggle.

"i already have you and my mom doing my hair. i do not need someone else." you rolled your eyes, "i think i do a pretty good job." you crossed your arms and huffed jokingly. "i didn't say you were bad at it." "i know i just like fucking with you."

"idiot." ao'nung said putting his hand over his eyes to block the sun so he could see you. you smiled at him and he smiled back, pulling you in for a kiss.

you happily kissed him back with a huge smile.
