Sophia's eyes darkened as the final student stalked out of the classroom. This caused Cam's mouth to turn upward into a delicious evil grin.
"I need to speak with you about our special project Miss, the one for extra credit."
"What about it?" Her voice was short and sharp.
"I just wanted to let you know about an interesting development between myself and Grigori."
"I think I've already seen it."
"Alright." Cam shrugged, and began to walk away.
"Wait-"
Got you.
"Yes?" He asked charmingly, turning to face her once more.
"Is she still bound to you?" She asked, there was an air of desperation in her voice.
"Of course, don't count us out of the race yet. Speaking of that race... what's different with Lucinda?"
Cameron was in the awkward position of knowing too much on some matters, and not enough on others. He wasn't sure yet if that information would prove to be enough currency to buy him more time with Victoria, he didn't want to rush things.
"She's-" Sophia began, Cam cocked his head expectantly.
"It's the Prices. They're not religious, she's not been baptized."
"Hm." Was all he gave her, before turning on his heel and making a swift exit.
Frankly, Cam needed a moment to think. Everything had been a whirlwind since Victoria arrived. Things were... not as he'd thought they were. It seemed there might be more players in the game then he thought, and that some of them were playing dirty.
He felt certain he was the only angel who had sensed Lucinda was different this time. If anyone else had noticed, he was sure they'd have practically pushed Lucinda onto Daniel, rather then agreeing to the pact.
Sophia asking about their bond was no surprise. He knew he needed to keep it a close secret that she bore no mark, until she did. He shuddered to think of what might happen to them if the truth got out in the meantime.
Together he and Lucifer had organized a slick deal with the Zhsmaelim. Allowing them to let Sophia watch and study Luce's cycle, as long as they left Victoria alone. Cam wasn't sure why they'd wanted to study Luce, but his growing suspicion that the cycle was drawing to an end, seemed more correct by the day.
He'd suspected something was different with Lucinda, it was a feeling that gnawed at him whenever he spoke to her. She seemed more curious and determined then before, despite his efforts he knew she was seeking out information about Daniel.
It made him sick seeing Grigori touch Victoria, even though it was completely innocent and keeping her safe. Much of his energy was focused on trying to not loose his composure, and then when he finally was alone with her he had to channel just as much energy into not hurting her. It had been an exhausting few days, but he was determined Victoria not know he was running on empty. There was a lot to be done, loose ends to be tied and information to be sought. He wanted her kept out of it, she had enough going on.
What has baptism got to do with this?
Cam was so focused on his own thoughts he'd neglected to notice he was wandering aimlessly. By the time he spotted Luce happily chatting away on the phone in the hallway, he'd been seen and it was too late to bail.
There was a shrill female voice on the other sound of the phone screaming "What is his name?!" Cam suddenly became aware of what he'd stumbled across. Had Luce been about to tell her friend about him or about Daniel?
