I squint at the sun beaming in my eyes and sit up yawning. Looking to my side, I see the sun rays shine on Michael. He was beautiful, it's been a long time since I could watch him sleep so I took in every moment. He laid on his stomach with his head facing me, mouth slightly open. His long black curls meshed beautifully on the white pillow. I stretch from a good nights sleep, we had slept together and I was so happy you would've thought we had sex. But we didn't, I just needed his arms around me. Michael shifts and let's out a small snore causing me to giggle softly. My hotel room door opens slowly. "Jayla.." Sasha calls out quietly. My eyes widen as she sees Michael lying next to me sleeping soundly. Her mouth gaped open with a smile. "Yall did it.." She whispers. "No we didn't." I roll my eyes. "He didn't want to be alone last night... And honestly neither did I... But we didn't do anything." She gives a smirk "Yeah, yeah." She smirks. "Well you need to wake up your bed buddy and you guys need to get dressed, we've got a flight to catch." She walks towards the door and shuts it quietly. I shake Michael lightly. "Mike. Wake up." He gives a small groan and shifts his body. I shake him again laughing. Michael has never been easy to wake. "Mike." I say a little louder. "Hm?" He grunts. "Get up" I laugh. He moves around and finally opens his eyes. The sun rays hit his eyes beautifully causing my heart to skip a beat slightly when he looked at me. A small smile traced his lips as he said "Good morning." "Good morning" I smile back. I hop out of bed and rush to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. The mirror gave me an odd reflection. I saw a person I haven't seen in a long time. My reflection was more radiant and I looked happy. Even my bed head didn't bother me.
I brushed my hair into a tight bun and threw on my white t shirt and black pants. Michael went to his room to get dressed. When I walk out my hotel room I see him walking out of his. I drag my rolling suitcase down the hall towards his room until he takes it out of my hand. "I got it." He smiles. "Thank you." I smile back. We meet at the back of the hotel to see our managers standing outside of the limo. "I can never see the lobby of a hotel. I hear their beautiful" Michael says while getting in the car.
We arrive in Munich, Germany and go to another extravagant hotel, we would only be there for the night. After the show we were going to be on the next flight home. I feel a buzz in my pocket and notice my cellphone was ringing. "Hello?" I answer. "Hi baby." Brian says, I could hear him smiling over the phone. "Hi babe." I feel a small smile form on my lips. "How's work?" I ask. "This movie is gonna be the movie of the year babe, I can't wait until you see it. I do have to tell you... I had a sex scene or two." He says regretfully. I swallow a little harder because here he was feeling guilty for a movie scene, while I had been this close to actually cheating on him, with a man I finally admit, I love more than him. I laugh off my guilt. "Oh baby, it's just a movie, I'm not worried. I know you love me." "How's the concert?" He asks. I tell him about the benefit concert and how much money we raised. My emotions getting the better of me, I tell him about the sick children we visited in South Korea. "That sounds beautiful, baby. I love the fact that you are so selfless. I've got to go. Tell Michael I said hello and I love you girl" he sends kisses through the phone and I giggle, he's been doing this for the past year. "I love you to baby" I say truthfully. I honestly did.
I watch backstage as Michael completed his set with Earth Song. He was amazing, as always. He walked onto the platform as he was slowly risen by a crank that took him about two stories high. All of a sudden, there was a loud snap and the crank came falling down with Michael still on it. I instantly panicked. I run to the engineer booth. "What the hell just happened?!" I snap. "He could've died. What the hell?" I couldn't imagine losing Michael, my heart thumped at the thought. Michael continued singing and finished his set, I could see in his eyes he was in pain. But he was such a performer it was like he didn't even feel it. After the set was over we come together on stage and give a bow. I watch him intently as he spoke to the crowd. The truth is, Michael was getting older, he couldn't keep enduring this physical pain. I wrap my arm around him helping him as he staggered offstage and paramedics came to his side. "Is he ok??" I ask my eyes wide with concern. "He may have fractured his vertebrae, it's a good thing he knew to jump or he could've been paralyzed." "I'll be fine Jay." He smiles weakly.
We get back into the states and before I go home I want to make sure Michael is ok, so I ride with him to Neverland and help him inside. I was exhausted and jet lagged from a long flight across the world, but a nap could wait. I had to take care of my friend. I help Michael into his bedroom and see a lot of things had changed, there were so many pictures of Prince and Paris all over and pictures of his brothers and sisters framed and sitting on his dresser. I lay him on the bed and help him get undressed, my eyes filled with worry and concern. "Can you promise me that you'll rest Michael?" He nods his head "I promise." I walk around looking at his photos and come across an old photo of him and I when I was 13. I laugh and sit on the bed. "I can't believe you still have this..." waving the photo in front of him. "We've been through so much since then. I never would've thought..." I shake my head in disbelief. "That's one of my favorite pictures. But look at this one..." He says as he reaches over to his bedside table and grabs a picture of us taken by a friend days after our wedding. "This one is my favorite." He passed me the photo. "Wow." I smile, we looked so happy. I gaze at our position in the photo. Michael was standing holding me by the small of my back, pulling me closer to him with a huge grin on his face. I had my arm around his neck and my lips were just about to touch his face, my eyes soft and focused on his smile and I had a little smile on my face with my other hand placed on his cheek, my wedding band shining on my ring finger. "That was the happiest I'd ever seen you. So I keep it, cause that's how I always remember you. Waking up to that smile was the best thing I've ever done in my life, other than my children, of course." I blush a little and hand him the photo. "It's a beautiful picture." I get up to leave. "Oh, Jay one more thing before you go?" "Yeah Mike?" He gives a quick smile. "You wanna work on another album with me?" I laugh. "I thought I said this concert was the last thing." "I know, but I just thought.." He says giggling. "We can definitely work on another album." I smile, I knew I could never say no to him. I missed singing with him anyway, if there was one thing he and I did perfectly... It was work together.
