"Mom?" Asked Y/n, her voice echoing through the small studio home they lived in as she walked in through the front door.

"Yeah-?" Answered her mom, the sound of crying clearly present in her voice. "What's up sweetheart?" Her desperate try to disguise the sadness in her voice was in vain, Y/n immediately noticing and running over to her mom.

"Are you okay?" She asked hugging her mom who was sitting on the bed, papers around her. "What is all of this?"

"Just some documents... You know? Our rent and that stuff. Don't worry about it." Y/n's mom tried to hide the papers but Y/n grabbed one and read enough before her mom snatched the paper from her.

"Mom? What does this mean?" Asked Y/n, her own eyes getting teary.

"Well, it means that-... Since we haven't made much profit from art we might have to find a new place to stay..." The woman choked out and Y/n hugged her immediately. "I'm so sorry baby..." She cried out.

"It's okay! Don't worry, we'll just find some smaller apartment and continue to make even better art!" Y/n tried to reasure her mom but the girl herself knew they would not make much money from it.

"Oh baby... I'm so sorry. Maybe I should call Mark? Ask him for a bit of money and I'll give him anything in return." Spoke Y/n's mom and Y/n cringed at the name.

Mark was Y/n's father. A man she met once when she was a baby during nothing other than court. A fight for custody between her mom and dad. She was glad she ended up with her mother, she heard many stories about her father, non were good. It was not fair that he had a nice and steady job while Y/n's mom barely made anything.

"No. Whatever you do, don't call him. He doesn't deserve your time. How about I get a job? I could walk dogs, clean cars and take care of plants when people are on vacation?" Y/n asked hoping her mom would say yes.

"No! I can't let you do that! It would not be fair to take away your childhood. I would never let you do that." Refused the mom.

"But-"

"No buts. Go outside and hang out with your little friends. That Vinnie boy, go hang out with him." She ordered and Y/n felt sadness overcome her, she didn't tell her mom about what happened between the two.

"Okay." She smiled at her mom before walking out the front door, the cold wind on a calm night hitting her figure and blowing the hair out of her eyes.

The girl walked along the sidewalk. She noticed a figure sitting on one of the benches that were randomly placed along the trail and it turned out to be Doogie. She came closer and sat down next to him, the two sitting in silence.

"Hi." He said quietly, looking at the ground.

"Hi..." She said back, even more quiet than him if possible.

"I heard about what happened. Between you and Vinnie." The boy spoke and the girl just nodded back.

"Doogie. What do I do?" The girls voice cracked, tears brimming at her eyes and the boy immediately moved closer to her, wrapping his hands around the girl as her head fell to his shoulder.

"It's okay. You'll figure things out. I know you both, I know you can sort this out." He answered.

"It's not just that... I'm gonna be homeless, Doogie. Me and my mom are already in debt enough and now we won't even be able to pay the rent. No one likes art anymore, you can't make a living out of it." The girl cried into his shoulder, Doogie gently patting her back.

"Hey. You're strong, okay? I know you are. You have so much potential, I don't think you even realize it. I've seen your paintings, they tell a story, they show character and a soul. It's amazing, it trully is. I have no doubt you'll make it. So stay strong, we believe in you." He spoke, the girl looked up at him confused.

"We? Who's we?" She asked and Doogie sighed.

"Me and... Vinnie." The boy spoke and Y/n scoffed, tears staining her face. "Look I know you two aren't on best terms, he's taken and you like Pierre but-"

"Doogie. I don't like Pierre." Choked out Y/n and the boy finally looked over at her. The girl with a smile on her face at any time now wore a tear stained face, her lips curved down and trembling. "Don't you understand?"

"Y/n what are you saying..?" Asked Doogie and the girl looked over at him, regret full in her eyes.

"Doogie... I'm in love with Vinnie."

Love. Such a weird thing it was. Something Y/n didn't even personally believe in yet it was able to fuck up her life in seconds. Why did she have to meet Vinnie? Why did he have to smile at her? Why did he have to care? Why, why, why? The girl could ask herself the same question over and over again for as long as she needed to, she just needed to understand why did Vinnie have to be Vinnie. Why did he have to be such an amazing person?

"What..?" The italian accent rang out through the street behind her. The timing couldn't have been worse.
