"She's a super freak, super freak~" Sang along Y/n to one of her favourite songs as she cleaned up dishes one after another. Her mother walked in through the door sighing before she threw her bag onto the floor and herself onto the bed. Y/n took off her headphones and looked over at her mom. "You okay?"

"Yeah just stressed. We have a gallery opening soon and some of the pieces aren't even close to finish. I don't think I can make it with working the two jobs. God how I just wish rent was cheaper!" The woman was clearly frustrated. She was angry and just wished that she could make a clone of herself to finish up the pieces.

"I'm free tonight. I'll stay up and finish them for you. Don't worry about it. You just go to work and when you come back go straight to bed. Don't even come upstairs." That was a lie. Yn wasn't free. She had a date planned with Vinnie but she was sure he wouldn't mind. Right..?

"Awh thank you so much sweetheart but I don't want you to work because of me. You just let me handle it, okay? You go out and have fun with your little friends and that boyfriend of yours." She smiled brightly at her daughter.

"Woah! First of all, he's not my boyfriend. We have just been hanging out a lot. And second of all, absolutely not. You are my number one priority. It's family before friends so you go to work and then to bed and I'll finish the pieces." She answered her mother determined, yet inside the girl feared if Vinnie will dislike her now that she has to cancel their plans.

The girl climed through the window of her friend Doogie's house as she looked around, trying to find the italian boy himself lying on the bed or playing with the small hoop and ball Doogie had. "Where's Vinnie?"

"He's in the bathroom but he should be back soon, then you two can go on that little date and finally let me do my work in peace." Sighed Doogie frustrated.

"Yeah about that... How do I tell him that I can't make it tonight?" Y/n asked sheepishly while fidgeting with her already sweaty hands.

"What?!" Doogie yelled as she spun around in his chair and looked at Y/n "Why not?!" Realizing how he overreacted a bit, Doogie cleared his throat and repeated more quietly. "Why not..?"

"Woah! I didn't expect that big of a reaction, especially not from you. God if you reacted like that then Vinnie is gonna be even worse!" Spoke Y/n as she sat on the bed, head in hands as she tried to compose her thoughts.

Knowing what his friend had planned for tonight, there was no wonder Doogie reacted like that but what is he gonna tell Y/n now. He surely can't tell her Vinnie wanted to make their relationship official so he had to think quick. "No it's just I-... Well you see... I... Uhm."

"What?" Y/n looked at him confused as the boy tried desperately to gather himself and his thoughts to not say something he shouldn't.

"I'm just stressed! Yeah it's been tough at the hospital and all so you know..." He made a lie that was part true. He was stressed but not because of his work but because of his two dumbass friends.

"Oh... Alright. Well what do I tell Vinnie?" Asked Y/n still suspicious of Doogie but she decided to let it go since the boy wasn't gonna tell her anyway.

Just as Doogie was about to answer her, the italian boy himself walked into the room. He quickly noticed Y/n and smiled as he went over to sit next to her. "Hey Y/n!"

"Hey... Um-... I have to talk to you..." Y/n tried to figure out the right words unsure of what to say as to not make him feel bad about canceling their plans. The boy just watched her curiously waiting for the answer.

Feeling the awkwardness in the room Doogie pretended to look at an imaginary watch at his hand. "Oh would you look at the time! I have to go! Yeah my shift is about to start this guy swallowed a gold fish, it's a whole thing!" Rambled on Doogie as he quickly picked up his stuff so he could excuse himself from the awkward conversation.

After he left the room Y/n decided to just go for it and tell Vinnie. "I can't make it tonight."

"What... Why?" Asked Vinnie who immediately seemed dissappointed at the news.

"Well my mom has a gallery in two days and she still hasn't finished up some paintings so I told her I would help her but now I have to finish up five pieces of which two aren't even halfway done and I need to buy white paint cause I'm out and there is just so much to do and I'm so sorry that I have to cancel but I do..." The girl tried her best to explain.

"So... You're ditching me... To go paint..?" Asked Vinnie as he looked at the ground with a pissed face yet his tone was cold.

"No it's just that-"

"No. I get it. Why hang out with me if you can go do something you do everyday anyway." The boy sarcastically smiled at her with pure bitterness in his tone.

"Vinnie come on it's not like that..." The girl tried to desperately explain as the boy got up not even wanting to listen to her.

"Look I have better things to do. Just go paint." He spat the last word mockingly before leaving the room through the window.

And so Y/n was left alone in Doogie's room, tears brimming at her eyes. She has never felt so shitty on canceling plans to go do something she loves. Something she has to do to survive. What was even worse was that she was now left alone when all she wanted was for somebody to stay. To comfort her. To help her.
