Happy Reading :)

Tuesday rolled around and I was done with my online classes. I walked to work my regular night shift and it flew by too quickly.

"See you later," I waved to my coworkers and started my trek home.

As I neared the bar Anthony hung around I thought, there was no way he would be here on a Tuesday night, I would be safe. Wrong.

"Lydia." He called.

"Anthony." I sighed and didn't turn around. I felt him walk over to me.

"How's it going?"

"Great."

We walked towards my apartment. It was the third time this was happening. I was mildly annoyed, but part of me was intrigued to see what we would talk about today on our walk. I was less on alert with him than I would be with another random man because I felt sort of familiar, we were from the same home town, he knew my family. I wasn't just some random girl to him, and he wasn't just some random guy.

"Do you wait for me every day so you can stalk me?" I questioned jokingly, but also wanted to know his explanation for being in the same place every night.

"Do you go clubbing every night just to walk past this bar?"

"I'm not clubbing, I work at a restaurant." I laughed and pushed his arm.

"Okay, that makes a lot of sense. I don't wait for you every night, you just happen to walk past my bar every time."

"Your bar?"

"I happen to be the part owner of New York's newest and hottest Bar and grill." He said in a commercial announcer voice.

"Congratulations," I was impressed, I knew how much work went into running your own business, and the fact that it seemed to be popular was a big deal.

"Thank you." He grinned, "We're hiring waitresses so if you're interested you should apply."

"Is that what this was, you saw a poor looking waitress walking home in the cold and decided to recruit her? You're investing way too much time on recruitment."

"Yeah that's actually exactly what I was planning, I didn't know who you were I just thought you were pretty enough to bring in customers."

"You're not wrong, all my regulars love me." I smirked, "They only come to the restaurant for me."

"See now we have to have you, you're working for the competition. How much for you to work for me and bring in your clientele?"

"You wish," I couldn't help giggling.

"Okay Lyla, goodnight." Unbeknownst to me we had reached my apartment, the walk that usually felt like forever has passed by effortlessly.

The next few nights followed the same pattern. I would get off work, walk home, and Anthony was always waiting there to walk me home. He never mentioned my family again after that first night.

At first I tried to avoid him, but after a while I began looking forward to our walks.

"You know you don't have to walk me home, I can take care of myself." I said one night, hoping he wasn't feeling some type of obligation to me.

"I have no doubt you could kill anyone with a pinky finger."

I nodded in approval of his obvious ego stroke, "Thank you for acknowledging."

"I'm just here to protect the rest of New York City from you honestly. The mayor called, said you were a threat, not one to be trifled with."

"Truffled with."
