"Thank you!" The driver handed me back my phone.
Turns out, I had left my phone in the car ride to the restaurant, Damon had already contacted the driver, and in about five minutes I had my phone.
Meaning, I was standing in the street, with no excuse to avoid Anthony.
"Let's go home," Anthony sighed, running his hands through his already disheveled hair.
He struggled to catch up with me as I speed-walked home. The entire walk was silent, and every second felt like my skin was crawling.
I couldn't help but feel disgusted about what happened last night.
My brain wasn't even prepared to unpack whatever the fuck happened to at the police station. This day was just one disaster on top of the other.
What I admitted to Damon of all people. I couldn't take that back. I said it out loud. I was in love with Anthony. And if I turned around and saw his face right now, I would just blurt it out.
Everyone keeps telling me that he loves me, but after last night I truly don't think he could ever think of me the same.
Anthony
I love her, I love her, I fucking love her.
She won't even turn around so I can tell her.
Finding out her brothers were caught on top of the Statue of Liberty— pissed.
Finding out I was their second call because Lydia didn't pick up — worried doesn't even begin to cover it.
Finding out I was their second call because Lydia was on a romantic date at a fancy French restaurant with her rockstar ex-boyfriend—
Reel it back Anthony.
Look, I try to be a cool guy, I really do. I try not to be overbearing. I try to give her space and not be the type of person her brothers are.
But I swear my brain short-circuited at that moment. If it weren't for Raul, I owe that guy my life.
Before the police department
"You're gonna get in that handsome Latino man's car, and you're going to go to the police station and be the support she needs. This is not about you."
"You just like him because he's Latino and I'm not."
"Yes, sorry Antonio, you just don't do it for me anymore."
"I can't even joke with you, I'm going to puke." I put my head in my hands.
I told Lydia I needed to grab 'something' before we left, and Raul was giving me a pep talk before I sat in the car with the girl of my dreams and her ex-boyfriend. Who, to be fair, was surprisingly cool with me considering how we met.
"You're not going to puke, you're going to put your big boy pants on today and get it done. And when you get back you're going to confess your love and then you're going to come cuddle with me and tell me all about your—"
"Oh fuck off!" I huffed and shoved Raul's outstretched hand away from my face. "I'm going, thanks."
Present
That moment brought me back to reality, and I was able to keep it together for Lydia. I even gave her a cream for her irresponsible tattoo.
Now she won't even look at me, probably because she's in love with that—
Anthony!
Raul's voice snaps me back from reality. Now he's in my head too?
"Anthony!"
