(this is based in season 3, I know NES were released to the US a year after, but let's just forget that for now)

"Y/n? Y/n! Pick up!" Max whisper-shouted into her supercom. She had been late arriving home from the arcade, and was now facing the consequences of an angry Neil. Usually, she didn't want to bother or tell anyone about how her home life was, but she trusted Y/n. And now, she was looking for safety.

Y/n was playing Donkey Kong on his NES, so focused that the audio from his own supercom went in one ear and out the other.

"Y/n!! Please this isn't funny." Max continued. She didn't bother to say "over" after every sentence even though the rest of the party had instructed her to many times.

Finally, Y/n snapped out of it and realized someone was calling for him. He picked up the supercom and put down the controller.

"Max?"

"Finally!! God, I thought you had given up on me."

"What's wrong?" Y/n asked, his voice laced with concern.

"I just- can you come over? And don't use the front door. Climb up to my window." Max pleaded, blocking out the angry yells coming from behind her locked door.

"I'm on my way." Y/n jumped up from his sitting position, throwing on a t-shirt as he was shirtless in his room. He slipped on his shoes after yelling to his mom that he was going out. Running down the road he simultaneously jumped on his bike and peddled to Max's house as fast as he could.

Arriving at Max's house, Y/n hopped off his bike and walked up to Max's bedroom window. He tapped on it with the pads of his fingers, incase knocking is too loud. Max was quick to open it, letting out a sigh of relief before backing up, letting Y/n crawl in.

Immediately, Y/n heard why Max wanted him over.

"Oh." He deadpans, looking at the girl with sympathy.

"Yeah, I just- I just wanted a little comfort- I guess-" Max was cut off by the loud jamming of Neil aggressively twisting the doorknob.

"Shit- help me. Push from the back." Y/n gestured to the dresser. Max nodded, pushing it while Y/n guided it from the front. After a few seconds, they shared a high five for teamwork.

Sitting beside each other on Max's bed, they stayed in silence until they heard that Neil had given up. Max turned to the boy. "Thank you for um- being here. You didn't have to come."

"Well, you basically begged me to. Also, you owe me a round at the arcade since you made me lose mine at home." Y/n grinned while Max rolled her eyes and pushed his head while chuckling.

"Fine. That's if I'm ever able to get out of here." Max muttered.

"Hey. Look at me." Y/n gently put a hand to the side of her face, making her look at him. "It's gonna be fine, alright? I can help you." Y/n smiled, maintaining eye contact.

Max gulped, then nodded, sealing their lips into a kiss. "I appreciate it."
