(events of season 3 didn't happen, takes place in the school year of season 4)
Right now, Y/n was waiting for Max to arrive. The two of them had set up a 'study date' tonight, since there was a science test tomorrow and Y/n was still not quite ready. Max wasn't any kind of science nerd of anything, but she was helpful enough to supply him cue cards and quiz him enough to which the material would be drilled into his brain. Once the doorbell rang, Y/n ran downstairs to open the door for her. "Hey, Max." He welcomed her inside before connecting their lips. Max grinned into the kiss, but only for a few seconds before she pulled away.
"Nope- nope. I'm here for one reason, and one reason only. So come on." Max took his hand and pulled him upstairs to his room, where she made him sit in his spinny chair while she sat on the bed.
"Y'know, when I said I wanted to study, I didn't really mean it." Y/n sighed, looking up at Max with puppy dog eyes.
"Too bad. Plus, your mom won't let you go to the fair with everyone on saturday if you flunk this test." She shrugged with an 'I don't care' look on her face.
"Why do you think my window is literally made to sneak out of?"
"No more distractions!" Max waved her hand, before looking at the first card. "Which element has the largest atomic radius?"
Y/n spun side to side in his chair, thinking. He hated to admit it, but nothing was clicking in his brain. "Atomic ra- what the hell does that even mean?"
Max sighed, and scratched her forehead. "It's the distance from the nucleus to the farthest orbital electron."
"You're asking which element?"
"Yes, Y/n."
"Manganese."
"Wrong. Its Francium." She looked at him apologetically, flipping the front card. "Okay, lets try again. What's the opposite of dilute?"
"Can you... use it in a sentence?" Y/n continued to spin, obviously unable to focus.
"Like- if you were giving a baby juice, you would dilute it with water." Max explained, placing her hand on Y/n's thigh to stop him. "Focus, Y/n."
"I can't this is so boring." He stressed, letting his head fall into his hands.
"Do you know the answer?"
"The opposite is to make it.. stronger?" It sounded like he was guessing more than answering.
"I need a one word response."
Silence filled the room as Y/n stared at the floor.
"It's literally what you're doing right now!" Max threw her hands up.
"Focusing?" Y/n asked stupidly.
"The answer was concentrate." Max sighed, again switching cards.
"I'm sorry, I just- this is stupid. I'm gonna fail anyway, why waste my time?" He shrugged, getting out of the chair and flopping on his bed. Max thought for a moment, before turning her head to him.
"Okay, i'll make you a deal. Every answer you get right, i'll give you a kiss." Max smirked, flipping to the next card. Y/n's head perked up at the offer.
"Are you serious?"
"Mhm." Max nodded, looking back down to the new front card. "Okay, sodium bicarbonate, water, and methane are all examples of what?"
Y/n sat in thought for a second, really wanting to get it right. "Mixtures?"
Max gave him a hopeful glance. "Close."
"Compounds?" Y/n guessed again as the girls face lit up.
"Correct!" Max smiled, before pulling him into a kiss. It was short and sweet, but Y/n looked unsatisfied.
"What- that's all I get?"
"You only got one question right." Max rolled her eyes, changing the front card to the back. "Iron is a crucial part of red blood cells. It's job is to what?"
"Transport oxygen?"
"I think you're getting smarter already." She placed her hand on the back of Y/n's neck before pulling him in again, a few seconds longer this time. Before she could fully pull away, Y/n pushed his head forwards, connecting their lips again.
"That's unfair." Max stuck a finger to his chest.
"How is that unfair?" Y/n asked innocently.
"You got two kisses for one right answer."
"It was a 2 in 1 deal." He shrugged, smiling.
"Okay, fine. This one is gonna be harder." She skipped through some of the cards to find a more challenging question. "Here. Name the 6 chronological states of an environment."
"Max, what the hell are you talking about?"
"Like population, biosphere. That stuff. Put them in order." She glanced down at the card, before tucking it in her lap.
"Okay, smallest to biggest. Population-"
"No."
"Individual."
"Good start." Max nodded. Y/n put out his index finger to count how many he had said.
"Then community?"
"Nope. Backtrack."
"Individual, population, community?" Y/n clarified, as Max nodded again. "What even is a biosphere?"
"Well, it would be cheating to tell you." She laughed, looking sweetly at him. She really wanted her boyfriend to get it right.
"Okay, well it sounds big. Like atmosphere. Is ecosystem next?" Y/n looked up at her expectantly, holding four fingers out.
"Yep. C'mon you got this."
"Individual, population, community, ecosystem...." He though carefully for a few seconds. "Biome, biosphere?"
Max couldn't help but crack a smile, nodding her head. "Yes! Good job, baby." She pulled him into another lip lock, and this time it got a little feverish. She climbed on top of him and straddled his waist, dipping her head back down.
"I thought it was one kiss, one answer?" Y/n teased.
"Well, technically it was six answers, but hey. I'm bad at math." Max smirked as she kissed him again. Y/n pulled away with swollen lips.
"Speaking of math, can you tutor me again? You're just such great he-" she had cut him off, laughing as they began to make out.
"Shut up, you dork."
