(in this oneshot, you will be Y/n Hopper. El's brother. Enjoy!)

Y/n was lying down on his bed, reading a dictionary. His vocab was more advanced than El's, considering he was a few months older. He put down the book when he heard Hopper turn on the stove, starting breakfast. As he swung his legs over the edge of his bed, his door opened, revealing El holding 2 white sheets with holes in them.

"I said to knock." Y/n spoke, but then looked down in confusion.

"Today is Halloween." El handed him a sheet.

"Yes, it is. Thank you for reminding me." Y/n gave a light smile. "That does not explain these." He pointed to the sheets, and El handed him one.

"Ghost."

"Ghost?"

"Yes. Put it on." She threw it over his head, adjusting it so he could see. She put on her own, and dragged him over to Hopper.

Jim flipped the french toast before turning around, jumping when he saw the two kids behind him.

"Oh, Jesus!"

"Ghost." The two said simultaneously, looking up at Hopper.

"Yeah, I can see that."

"Halloween." Said El.

"Sure iiiissssss-" Hopper drew out in a sing-songy voice. "But right now it's breakfast, okay? C'mon let's eat."

"They wouldn't see us."

"What're you talking about?"

"The bad men." El said innocently, her gaze following Hopper around.

"We want to go trick or treating. Everyone else in the party is going, and you said- no. You promised we would leave." Y/n begged as Hopper just shook his head, rising from his seat.

"You two know the rules."

"But-" Y/n tried to intervene, but the man ignored him.

"So you know the answer."

"No, but-"

"Hey- I don't care. I. Don't. Care. Alright? You go out there, ghosts or not. It's a risk. We don't take risks, alright? They are stupid. And?"

"We are not; stupid!" El exclaimed at him. Y/n sighed. He'd have to tell Max the sad news tonight even though he already told her he'd go with her.

"Good. Now eat. Your foods getting cold." Hopper sat, pouring syrup on the 3 plates. "Look. Tonight I'll get off early, buy us a bunch of candy, and we can sit and get fat and watch a scary movie together. How's that for a compromise?"

El's head turned in confusion. "Com- compromise?"

"C-O-" Hopper began.

"C-O-M-P-R-O-M-I-S-E. When two parties cannot agree so they made a decision in the middle." Y/n grinned brightly, looking at Hopper for confirmation.

Hopper nodded, smiling at him. "Like a halfway happy."

"By 5-1-5?"

"5:15, yeah."

"Half-way happy." El concluded, leaving them to eat breakfast.

It was now 3:00pm when school got off. Y/n was sitting around all day so he could talk to Max. He was scared to tell her to truth, incase she got upset. He went to his room, and picked up his supercom. "Max?"

No answer. He waited a few seconds and tried again.

"Max?"

Nothing. Little did he know Max was going to buy them matching costumes. They were going to be clowns together as it would be easy wearing a mask.

Hopper arrived late, around 6:45 with a big bag of candy in his hand. Max skated in not too late after. Hopper was trying to apologize to El, as she was more effected by his absence tonight than Y/n. When Max knocked on the door, Y/n bounced up to open it.

"Hey!"

"Hi." Y/n said plainly, stepping to the side of Max could come in.

"What's wrong? I got our costumes. I'm not late, am I? The boys said we'd leave at 7." Max stepped inside, opening her backpack that had the costumes inside.

"No. You're not late." Y/n smiled sadly, as Hopper walked by.

"Yeah, uh- these two can't go out tonight. I'm sorry, Max. It's too big of a risk." Hopper put a hand on her shoulder, before going to his room to change out of his uniform.

Max sighed, looking back at Y/n. "Well, I guess we're staying in."

Y/n's head tilted in confusion. "But- but you meet Mike, Lucas, Will and Dustin in 15 minutes."

"And now, I'm ditching Mike, Lucas, Will and Dustin to hang out with you, El and Hopper." She mocked, flipping down onto the couch, looking up at Y/n expectantly.

El walked out of her room when she heard her name, smiling at Max.

"Can I have candy?" The girl asked, as Y/n threw a snickers bar at her. Max laughed and Y/n sat down beside the redhead on the couch. El turned on Frankenstein for them to watch. Max cuddled up to Y/n, putting an end of licorice into her mouth, motioning Y/n to take the other side. They nibbled away at each end until their lips connected, both parties smiling into the kiss until Hopper threw an M&M at them.

"No PDA under my roof. That's a rule." He and El chuckled, even though she didn't know what PDA was.

"Does that include Joyce?" Y/n smirked, getting another M&M to the head.

They all continued to watch the movie until they slowly drifted off to sleep. Max was in Y/n's arms. He smiled in his sleep, thinking about the girl sacrificing her 'best night of the year' for him.

(A/N: Hi! Thank you for reading, I know there isn't a lot of Max in this one, but I thought bc of the relation with El it would need a bit of background. Anyways, hope you enjoyed!)
