After the incident in the alley, things changed between me and Jake. We had been through something together, something that had brought us closer than ever before. But I also knew that I could never take his protection for granted.

One day, we were walking down the street when we noticed a group of shady-looking characters following us. Jake immediately went into protective mode, ushering me into a nearby store and telling me to stay put.

But I wasn't content with just sitting there and waiting for Jake to handle the situation. I had seen enough action movies to know that sometimes, the hero needed a little help. So I snuck out of the store and followed Jake at a safe distance.

I watched as Jake confronted the group of men, telling them to leave us alone. But they didn't listen. They pulled out knives and started circling Jake, ready to attack.

I knew I had to do something. I didn't have any weapons, but I had my wits and my fists. I ran towards the group of men, yelling and screaming like a wild animal. They turned their attention to me, giving Jake a chance to strike.

It was a blur of punches and kicks, but we managed to take down the attackers. Jake had a cut on his arm, but he was otherwise unharmed.

"You saved my life, Natalie," he said, looking at me with pride and admiration.

I grinned. "I couldn't just sit there and do nothing. You've taught me well, Jake."

From that day on, Jake and I were an even stronger team. We had each other's backs, no matter what. And I knew that I had a friend and a protector for life.
