Failed to protect

We were locked in a deadly fight,
Our lives hanging by a thread,
Every move determined our fate,
Our hands shaking with dread.
I tried to keep us both alive,
But my effort fell short,
My fleeting thought of courage,
A lonely faint retort.
My mind agonized and pleaded,
My heart filled with fear,
That I wouldn't be able to protect,
My dearest sister so dear.
But alas, our dreadful fate had been set,
For in the end we both succumbed,
And together in a violent death,
I failed protecting my beloved one.
