"Still haven't heard anything yet?" Esme asked.
"No..." I answered as I rummaged through my closet of clothes.
"Well fuck that bitch!"
It's been a month. The Royal Togetherness events have ended this year. Me and Esmeralda made up and I've been taking her words into consideration. It will take more time and more getting used to, but I'm sure I can do it. After that event, I got scolded by my parent pretty badly but they were able to sympathize with me. On the plus side, the article got taken down and talk of me died down rather quickly, but my parents placed security by the secret gate which was a downer. And a double downer was that I haven't spoken to Kit since he came to my room.
I tried multiple times to get ahold of him, but nothing. I texted Daniel but he just said that they had to leave due to business and that he apologizes on Kits behalf. Let's just say I cried a lot that day.
I still think about Kit. Everyday. I always wonder what he's doing. How he's doing. If he's thinking about me at all. If I meant something to him at all.
A loud pound on the door startled both me and Esme. We looked at each other in confusion.
"Yes?"
"Open up princess."
Esmeralda still stared at me in confusion but I knew exactly who that was. Why was he here? How was he here?
"Esme can you open the door?" I asked her and turned back to the closet. I don't think I'm ready to face him yet after a whole month of nothing. I wanna scream and yell and get angry at him for leaving me alone, but I also want to jump in his arms and tell him how I've missed him and how much I worried about him.
"Uhm....who are you?" Esme asked him.
"Kit Aspen. I'm a...friend of the princess. May I speak to her?"
"I don't know, should you?" Esme said.
I sighed. "Esme just let him in, can you please go get more tea as well."
"I mean I guess." Esme muttered and closed the door behind her.
Once they were both alone Kit finally spoke. "I'm sorry."
"Sorry for what? Leaving and not answering me for a whole month? Well it's whatever, it's not like your my boyfriend or anything." I crossed my arms over my chest and looked at him.
"I... your right, I'm not, but I can be," he walk over to me. The look in his eyes was like he was a lost puppy.
"What are you on about? First of, how did you even get in here?"
"Your sister let me in."
Oh my god Candice!
"But what I'm saying is first, I'm sorry. I know words can't just make up for everything but I'll show you. I'll be so good to you Mary I swear." He took my hands and kissed both of them. My heart started bounding.
"How come you left?"
"I got into trouble with the royal family in Berethiam. So once they saw the news, Daniel thought best we head back. I couldn't come till things died down."
So that's why. I hummed. "You made me sad."
"I know."
"And worried."
"I know.
"I thought I meant nothing to you. That this was all just me. Was I right?"
"No princess! I... I really like you. Like a lot, it's kinda scary actually. But I know what I want. I want to be with you. I want you to give me a chance. I want us to go somewhere with this. Every single day I kept think that maybe you hate me for this or that you moved on, and I hated that. I don't want you to not want me."
"Not want you," I put my hands on his cheeks and he leaned into my touch. "I don't think that possible."
"Just say the words." He said.
"Pardon?"
"Say you want me to leave," he put his hands on my waist and looked at me in my eyes. Oh how I've missed the beautiful gray color.
"Say you don't want me around, tell me off, anything and I won't bother you ever again. It will hurt me deeply but I'll have no choice but to respect your decision. I need to know because if you don't, I won't ever leave your side. So I need to know, I need you to tell me."
Did I want him to leave? No, not at all. I wanted him to stay. I wanted him to never leave me.
"Kit, can you please stay."
"You mean it?"
I leaned up on my tip toes to reach him, "I do," I whispered and kissed him.
There will be many thing we'll have to fix. Many things we'll have to learn. Many things along the way that we'll have to face, but we could do it. Together. Me and him. Mary and Kit.
We'll take it one step at a time.
I, Mary Fermento, have lost the Prince Bet.
