Upon approaching his destination, Yamaguchi could hear people conversing and messing around as well as the soft notes of the music playing in the background. Everyone seemed carefree, almost cheerful despite the reason behind their presence here. Now, he could almost discern the big fire burning in the centre of the square and the dim lights hanging on the trees from the distance.
Tonight's party was a tribute for the ten years' anniversary of the Fire tribe's disappearance... To be honest, the greenette apprehended to head over there in the first place but he didn't want his people's efforts to go to waste. So, he put his growing nervousness aside and greeted his peers, a gentle smile adorning his features. Even though, his gaze stayed glued to the ground the all time, simply because he couldn't bear to see the empathy or rather pity that filled their eyes, constantly reminding him of his loss. On this day, only a blurry memory of his omega remained in his mind, and he hated the fact that small things that he swore meant the world to him as a child like the fruity and addictive scent of tangerines and sunlight, the way the younger wrinkled his nose and a delicate shade of pink would adorn his pale cheeks when pouting and so many more were slowly fading away.
After a few minutes, he settled on a bench and finally let out a big sigh. He cautiously peeked at the crowd, immediately spotting a familiar raven. The boy's back was leaning against a tree, in marge of the group, his eyes fixated on the ground and a gloomy aura surrounding him. Yamaguchi knew the black-haired male was aware of his presence, but he didn't even shoot him a glance, making crystal clear that he wasn't worth the attention. In fact, it has been a while since the freckled teen caught sight of the boy. After the announcement of their fated omega's death, Kageyama has distanced himself from everyone, including his other two significant others. The thought of how sweet and happy his alpha once was saddened Yamaguchi, who could only measure the drastic change in his behaviour since that tragic day. Rumours were going around about how insensitive and self-centred the blue-eyed alpha was, some even going as far as calling him a tyrant, earning him the nickname of "king". But Yamaguchi could see through the raven's cold facade and knew the hateful comments were slowly tearing him apart. He despised this painful sight. If only the other would let him in and unfold all these pent-up emotions, then maybe they could fix their strained relationship.
Before the greenette could make up his mind whether he should go up to his soulmate or not, the voice of his father enjoined everyone to line up in front of the altar and wait for their respective turn to pay respect to the Fire tribe. Yamaguchi shifted his attention to the line already forming and reluctantly made his way over the end. Tsukishima used to stand by his side, hand in hand, but along the years, his appearance became more and more rare until he didn't bother to come at all. Yamaguchi didn't blame him... he knew how anxious the latter was around big fires not to mention the whole purpose of this ceremony. Nevertheless, he sought the comfort of his lover more than ever at the moment... He shut his eyes tightly in an attempt to chase away the tears threatening to pour down his cheeks. He wanted, no, he needed his mate right now. Cold fingers fleetingly brushed against his own, answering his silent plea. It was brief but he felt it. He hastily opened his eyes searching for that person until his gaze met with deep and enchanting blue navy eyes. The eye-contact didn't last more than a second but that was enough to sooth the greenette's nerves. A loving smile tugged on the latter's lips at the knowledge that the black haired alpha still and will always have his back.
