Dancing between the thin curtain between consciousness and unconsciousness, Kit struggles to come to her senses, to move, or do something, anything other than remain motionless in that state.

She listened to every single word Jade said, as well as all those unknown voices, but for some strange reason, incredibly familiar, especially the one of the young man who held her hand earlier.

It's quiet now, maybe they're gone.

A thud makes Kit's body rock, waking her senses and making her gasp, rising at once, the first thing she feels is her heart beating in her chest, fast like a bullet train.

Kit opens her eyes slowly, and they take several minutes to adjust to the darkness, her body slowly coming back under her control, and the only pain left is from being in the same position for too long, her fingers tingling as she flexes them, she no longer feels the agonizing pain of the vampire's bite on her neck, Kit lets out a deep sigh, the world around her feeling different after being still for so long.

It was agonizing, and when Kit starts to think about it too much, she feels her chest tighten in panic and she feels the urgent need to get out of there.

Kit looks around, the room is empty and dark, the clock on the side table ticks 2am.

Kit stands up, she has no thought in her mind other than to get out of there, as soon as possible, she fears that if she stays for one more second, she will never be able to leave.

She stumbles as she walks to the door, her legs still unaccustomed to her weight, so she braces herself against the wall, trying to be as quiet as possible.

Kit reaches the stairs and begins to descend, her bare feet slippery on the linoleum floor, she reaches halfway down the stairs when she sees Jade, asleep on the couch, her wild red hair spread around her.

Kit stops, she watches Jade for a few minutes, her chest aching for all she has discovered and all she knows.

Jade is lying to her about something that has to do with her visions, all this time she knew, and Kit thought she was going crazy.

She covers her mouth to hold back the tears as she finishes walking down the stairs.

Kit couldn't stay there, stay with Jade, not after everything that had happened.

But still, it didn't make it any easy to say goodbye like that, to abandon her in the middle of the night.

Kit closes her eyes for a moment before moving towards the door, she makes as little noise as possible as she closes it behind her on her way out.

Then she quickly walks out of there, down the long floors through the lift and out of the building without saying a word to the drowsy receptionist, she walks out into the street, the night wind punishing her as she begins to run down the street, tears streaming down her face and sobs shaking her shoulders.

Her vision becomes blurred and she loses track of where she is going, anywhere, any far from there.

Kit was so tired of lies and omissions, her whole life the people she loved most had lied to her, and this repeating itself with Jade hurt more than anything.

Kit stops, panting, unable to breathe properly, she bends over her knees, inhaling long breaths of air through her mouth, soon they turn into sobs and she can't hold them back, her chest tightening with an intense pain, Kit feels as if she is going to die, the panic attack taking over, she clings to  a wall, bracing herself not to fall, she bends down and puts her head between her knees, trying to fight the hyperventilation.

Kit closes her eyes, her heart beating dangerously fast inside her chest, so she concentrates on her breathing, slow and steady, in and out, she follows the exercise until she calms down, until she stops sweating and panting.
