Kit wakes up to the sound of rain falling outside, the heavy drops hitting the window making a rhythmic and serene sound, she reaches out to touch Jade and frowns as she realizes she is not there.

Kit sits up, the side of the bed where Jade was is empty and cold, meaning she got up a while ago.

Kit gets out of bed, walking barefoot, she crosses the spacious room and heads for the guest room, no sign of the redhead, so she heads for the bathrooms and down the stairs to the living room and kitchen, quietly.

She finds Jade on the balcony, locked outside in the rain and sitting on the floor, soaked from head to toe, her face buried in her hands, her body swaying with sobs.

Kit's heart sinks in her chest as she realizes what she is doing.

Jade is crying.

Kit assumes that she had gone out onto the balcony so that Kit wouldn't hear her, and a part of herself feels hurt to realize that she doesn't trust Kit enough to cry in front of her.

But there's another part of her that understands, she herself can't cry in front of anyone, not even her parents.

And then there's the part of her that wants to go hug Jade, but Kit doesn't listen to that part and returns to the room, giving Jade the privacy she needs.

If Jade needed to cry in the rain to ease her pain instead of talking about it, Kit wouldn't object to it, the important thing is that she was putting it all out.

Jade had never felt so much pain in her entire life.

Agnar was right, she was attached to all those objects, but it was much deeper than a material affection.

In each of them, there was a story, a memory of her life, all the sweet and bitter moments, all the joys and sorrows.

And the pain of losing them, the pain of having all those stories erased from her life... It consumes Jade, in every part of her being, she feels it in her bones and in her soul.

As the storm falls, washing Jade like a divine bath, Jade puts all her pain out of her lungs, crying loudly and letting out screams of frustration, so loud and strong that her throat begins to scratch and soon she loses her voice.

She cringes, hugging her knees and sinking her face between them, her drenched hair clinging to her back.

It was like losing Kit once more, but this time, all the lives they'd had together, all Kit's reincarnations, being ripped from Jade against her will all at once, unmercifully and without remorse, like ripping the peel from a scarred wound with force.

The wound would bleed again, even worse than before.

Jade felt full of agony, she couldn't go through this again, she couldn't lose Kit once more, that would destroy her permanently.

If this time she lost Kit...Then that would be the last time she would walk this earth.

She's willing to end her own immortal life for Kit, she couldn't wait for another fifty years, wandering the world like a ghost until she found Kit and start all over again, only to lose her once more.

Of course, she had another alternative, one that has crossed her mind several times before, but she refuses to even think too much about it.

She would not turn Kit, ever, she would not subjugate Kit into such a life, she would never forgive herself for that.

Jade stays in silence, breathing slowly, the rain washing all her emotions away little by little, calming her heart and mind.

She looks up at the sky, completely dark thanks to the rain clouds.

Kit turns off the television, it's been a full hour since she woke up, and Jade still hasn't returned.

She swings her legs over the edge of the bed, anxious, she won't go to Jade, she promised herself she would respect her privacy.

But that's a long time to be out in the rain, she might end up sick...

Kit gets up and goes to the long windows, she watches the city below, still alive and bright despite the rain, from up there everything seems so small and quiet, very different from the constant noise and movement that is the view from Kit's window.

This reminds her of her mother, when she was little, Kit's mother kept saying that she would love the big cities, with all their lights and buildings.

At first Kit hated the capital, she couldn't stand all the pollution and noise.

But now... It doesn't seem so bad, the capital has won a place in Kit's heart...

Because she met Jade here, and she would be forever grateful to the city for that.

Kit takes a deep breath and turns around, walking out of Jade's bedroom and down the stairs, she walks into the living room and turns to the balcony.

Jade is still sitting, but she is no longer crying, on the contrary, she has put her legs through the rods of the balcony and is leaning on the palms of her hands, looking up at the stars.

Kit approaches, admiring the woman.

She unlocks the balcony door and steps out, closing it behind her.

Without saying a word, she sits down beside Jade, not caring that her clothes are getting wet and the rain is falling on her head.

She slips her legs through the rods as Jade does and takes one of her hands, entwining their fingers.

And she stays there, silent, not saying a word, beside Jade.

And when she looks at her, Kit meets Jade's gaze, and right there, in that moment, a promise is sealed, without the need for words.

The promise that no matter what happened, Kit would always be by Jade's side, without judgment or demands, just faithfulness.

The heavens could open and hell descend on earth, people could come and go and try to pit them against each other, the world could burn from its core to its last ocean, no matter what happened, Kit would never leave Jade.

Kit feels that not even death could break the bond she has with Jade.

And if death did happen to come to her or Jade, Kit promised herself, that she would return, in another life, she would return to Jade.

There was no denying it anymore, as much as she wasn't going to say it out loud, Kit already knew the truth.

Her heart belongs to Jade, and she would love her until the last day of her last life.
