We Go Down Together [ ENGLISH VERSION ]

6. The Great War

Kit opens her eyes, and the first thing she sees is the deep blue sky, with low clouds and the sun shining brightly, and she feels the wind blowing, causing her short hair to blow across her face.

She takes a deep breath and her lungs fill with the cleanest air she has ever breathed.

She feels that she is lying on the ground, but she doesn't recognize the place.

Kit turns her head to the left and runs her fingers across the grass, she is lying on a high hill, under the shade of a huge tree.

Kit sits up quickly as she sees the horizon, she can see the entire expanse of land for miles from where she is, and just below the hill is the capital city of Tir Asleen.

She frowns, the city looks completely different than she remembers, there are no buildings or streets, only old buildings, made of stone.

- Hey you - A familiar voice says behind her - You snore like a sixty-year-old man when you sleep, did you know that?

She turns and sees Jade lying on the grass beside her, wearing almost medieval clothes, with a long dark cloak covering her shoulders.

For a quick second it is as if the world suffered a glitch, as if someone had turned off the light of the world for a millisecond before turning it on again.

Then she remembers who she is, She is Kit Tanthalos, and this is Jade, her girlfriend, and they had come up the hill to get away from Kit's mother, Sorcha, and all the responsibilities of royalty.

They had come to watch the clouds, but Kit had fallen asleep.

Kit smiles and lies back down beside Jade, resting her head on her cloak that she had wrapped around a pillow and says:

- I do not snore - Kit rolls one of Jade's curls on her finger - But you snore like a troll in a gastritis crisis, so ...

- Liar! - Jade nudges Kit, laughing - I don't snore.

- Oh please Jade, you're the snorer of all the people I know- Kit laughs and pulls Jade around the waist, making her roll on the grass until she bumps into Kit.

Jade rolls her eyes and looks at Kit, her girlfriend's beautiful brown eyes staring at her as if she could see her soul.

- You are so beautiful- Jade whispers, brushing a strand of hair from Kit's face.

Kit feels her heart race, like it has every time Jade has been this close to Kit.

It's like her heart is going to explode, Jade made her feel so nervous and anxious.

She didn't want to feel so cliché, but it was like a thousand literal butterflies were in chaos in her belly.

Kit cracks a smile and moves closer to Jade, brushing her lips lightly against hers, looking deep into those coffee-colored eyes.

- By all the gods Kit- Jade laughs and pulls her to herself, kissing her fervently, holding the short length of Kit's hair.

Kit feels as if she could melt in Jade's hands, that woman made her so pliable.

Kit felt that she had never really experienced anything before she met Jade, it was as if her life had really begun the moment she met her.

And may all the gods forbid she should ever live without Jade.

Kit would rather die than give up Jade.

Kit opens her eyes, for a whole minute, she has no idea where she is.

Then the sound of the city car traffic comes through the window and brings Kit back to reality.

She blinks again and again and sits up.

Was that a dream?

She rubs her eyes to be sure.

It was so real. So physical, as if she were really there.

She feels her cheeks flush as she remembers the content of her dream, how she kissed Jade.

They say that dreams are the results of one's deepest desires.

She shakes her head, trying to get that familiar feeling out of her.

The alarm wakes up loudly, startling Kit, it is 9am and she is late.

Jade crosses her arms and leans against the doorframe, her patience slowly fading.

Boorman finally walks out the door a few minutes later, with a big smile on his face, Jade watches him get into his car and drive away.

A smiling Scorpia comes out of the house, she watches Boorman's car disappear down the street.

Then she turns to Jade, furious.

- Are you by any chance hiding something else that I should know, Jade? - she vociferates, entering the house with a loud shove in the door.

Jade lets out a tired grunt and goes after her "sister".

- Scorpia I didn't know okay? I literally found out that they were still alive this week, do you think that if I knew Boorman was alive I wouldn't tell you?

Scorpia turns to Jade.

- I don't know- she says -It's very hard to believe every word that comes out of your mouth, Jade, you're constantly lying.

Jade quickly approaches Scorpia and looks deep into the woman's eyes.

- For the last fifty years - She says low and coldly - I have been completely transparent with you Scorpia, I have been on your side for all this time and you still don't trust me?

- Maybe you really are telling the truth, Jade, but honestly, do you really think that this time, just because they are here, will make any difference? - she shakes her head - You know exactly what's going to happen, again, and neither of us can help it.

Jade pushes Scorpia away.

- Go to hell, Scorpia- she snarls -You don't know anything, I've been living through this for over a hundred years.

- And what exactly happened the other times Jade? - Scorpia says.

Jade remains silent, her hands trembling with anger.

- You have no right to offend me like that just because you couldn't be with Boorman all these years, it's not my fault!

- I could have had a life with the man I love - Scorpia exclaims - I could have lived for years and then died with him! And look what happened, because of you, that Crone cursed them all.

- I could've too!- Jade exclaims - Centuries ago i could've have lived a long happy life with the woman that i love, but not everyone has what they want, so don't blame me for something that was completely out of my controll!

Jade stops in front of Scorpia and says:

- And thanks to me, both of you will have eternity to have a long life - Her voice sounds cold and controlled - Congratulations, you are about to start your fairy tale, while I will continue to watch the woman I love die once again.

Scorpia's gaze softens as the words come out of Jade's mouth, she takes a step forward.

Jade turns away and heads towards the door.

- Jade ... - Scorpia calls out, but Jade quickly leaves Scorpia's house and hurries to her car.
