42. Everything I Wanted

Jade feels nervous, her hands sweat and her heart beats hard inside her chest, she tries to concentrate on driving and not on her body failing her and causing her to have a crisis.

She and Kit have been silent since the moment they got into the car, the tension from the conversation they had earlier at Elora's house, and everything that happened after, becoming a firm rope between them.

She was afraid of how Kit felt about the discovery she'd made today, about Jade wanting to end her own life after... Kit's death, several years from now.

Honestly, she cared little if Kit got older, that meant she would still be alive.

As if reading her mind, Kit comments in a low voice:

- About what happened earlier... - She sighs and looks at Jade - Jade... You can't really think that this would be the best option for you, for us - She frowns as Jade pulls the car over near the curb - What are you doing?

Jade turns off the car and stares at the steering wheel for long minutes before turning to Kit and saying:

- Every story has an end Kit - She looks into Kit's wild ocean blue eyes - Maybe this is how ours ends.

- No! - Kit exclaims, indignant, she leans towards Jade, making her look deep into her eyes - Not for me! For me, it's just the beginning and I can't accept that this is our destiny Jade - She has the expression of betrayal on her face, shock and stupor - I love you, more than anything in this world, but I can't stay in a relationship knowing that one day it will end in the worst possible way.

- And how do you think I feel?- Jade raises her voice, tears coming to her eyes quickly - I've been through this for the last fifteen hundred years, again and again, but this time, when you're gone, there won't be fifty years of waiting, I can wait until the world ends but you won't come back to me!

Jade averts her eyes, trying to hide her tears, she felt so frustrated and empty, and this argument didn't help matters.

Kit takes Jade's hand, attracting her attention, she rests her head against the car seat and whispers:

- I'm sorry - She sighs - I was insensitive, I know you went through all this and it was horrible for you, and I know I can't say that my experience was the same, but... - She closes her eyes and shakes her head, she approaches Jade - But all my other lives are gone Jade, and if this is my last one, I want to enjoy it the best way I can, with you, and I don't want you to feel guilty for anything that happened or that will happen - She intertwines her fingers with Jade's - I want you to live with me, in the present, here and now, the future and the past can go to hell, ok?

Jade sighs and nods, Kit hugs her and she sinks her face into her beloved's short dark hair, her familiar smell like home permeating her clothes.

Jade wouldn't change her mind, but she wouldn't tell Kit that, she didn't need another reason to have her heart broken.

- I know I'm not very good with words and expressions- Kit says, pulling away and looking at Jade, -but I think you should know how much I love you, and I know there's no doubt in your heart how much I feel for you, any more than there is in mine- She caresses Jade's face, sliding her fingers down her neck - I'd do impossible things for you Jade, I'd destroy the whole world if I had to, to get back to you- Kit's heart fills with emotion and passion, as if her chest is about to burst open - I'll always come back to you Jade, no matter what or how, I'll never leave you.

Jade opens a weak smile for Kit, she wanted so much to forget the pain and anguish and give Kit everything she wanted...

Kit was right, the future and the past could go to hell.
