Later...
"That's weird! I've been trying Marv's cell. It's off." Kelly reported with a frown.
Connor and Parker had gone home, Chen and Calvin had been scrolling through social media, while Leyla went to the bathroom with Nichelle. Both females were making their way back to the waiting room. Leyla headed towards Kelly, while Nichelle sat quietly in one of the middle chairs.
"Really?" Chen asked.
"Who's Marv?" Calvin asked confused.
"Leader of our squad!" Chen responded, as Leyla approached.
"He's like a mini version of Hondo, but...meaner, more aggressive and less patient!" Chen said, while the other two nodded.
"Damn!" Calvin said in fear.
"Anyway, what happened?" Leyla asked, turning to Kelly.
"Marv's phone is off" Kelly reported, once Leyla joined them.
"He told us he was going to check up on a homie. See if he could get some info on what was going on with the drug war. Later, he said he was going to work." Leyla reported.
"Ok, let me check something." Kelly said. "He said he was going to work, right?"
"Yeah, so?" Leyla asked puzzled.
"Let's see if he is." Kelly said dialing the supercenter's number.
She got up from her seat and headed to the corner for more privacy. Nichelle got suspicious, so she leaned towards Leyla.
"Everything ok?" she asked.
"Yes." Leyla responded, shooting a look at Chen.
Nichelle noticed and frowned, "You sure?"
Calvin leaned towards her and whispered, "They're tryin' to locate Marv!"
RIIIING RIIIIINNG
Leyla heard her ringtone and immediately went for her purse. She frowned at the number, then showed her cell to Chen. "Uh oh!"
Nichelle felt another wave of dizziness, but was so intrigued by the youngsters, she ignored it. She tried to focus on the kids.
"Lady Lee? Hey!" Leyla answered.
Silence.
"No. Isn't he at work?"
Silence. Leyla dropped her jaw and opened her eyes wide. After some seconds she regrouped.
"Uh...I don't know, Miss L."
Silence.
"Yes, ma'am. Bye."
CLICK
Nichelle turned to Leyla, "Everything ok with Marv's mom?"
"She asked me if I knew where he was coz he was supposed to pick up his little sister before turning in to work but... he never showed."
"Guys!" Kelly called, approaching the group, "Marv's boss said he never showed up for work."
"Where is he?" Chen asked.
SQQQUUUEAAAAKKKK
The wooden door interrupted the conversation as Rubio, Buck, Alex, Deacon, Annie, Matthew and a man wearing a black suit all exited in a row. After several seconds, García and Luca came out. They shook hands and the tired police officer said good night to everybody before turning towards the door. The suit went straight to the elevators, while the others gathered in the waiting room.
