Karl stared at his bedroom wall. The thin lines that separated the oak planks on his wall that were decorated in paintings and broken picture frames 6 familiar to him...

Karl felt empty.
He was missing something, something he just couldn't label. He couldn't remember what it was... but he knew whatever it was, it was important.

There was a small knock at his door. It sounded shy and unsure.
That amused Karl. How could a mere knock sound nervous?

"Who is it?" Karl's voice gurgled in the back of his throat. It sounded hoarse, like he hadn't talked in a while.

"...It's me, Karl."
A familiar voice responded, with some hesitancy.
Karl scavenged in the back of his mind, scraping at what was left. He knew this voice, and the voice clearly knew him.

"Oh... Sapnap?"

The door creaked open, a relieved head popping out from behind it.
A mop of blackish brown hair crept down the sides of his face and his neck. His pale face was ash covered, and his fiery brown eyes glistened through the dust. He wore shining netherite armor above his dirty, torn clothes. He looked like he had just been to battle.

Sapnap.

He gave Karl a shy smile, walking into his room. Walking as if he was threading thin ice.

"You... okay, Karl? I've been... worrying about you. You haven't been out of your room for a bit... Not to mention yesterday when you didn't remember who I was..."

"I don't remember that."

Sapnap sighed, the eye bags on his eyes becoming more apparent.
"That's... it's fine, Karl."
Sapnap inched closer to Karl, sitting on his bed with him. Sapnap tilted his head, taking in all of the details on the boy's face.

Karl blew a strand of hair out of his face. His light brown hair was graying.

"Karl... do you..." Sapnap sighed, a light blush began to spread across his face. "Do you remember el Rapids? Do you remember who we made it with?"

"What?"
"Our country... before Kinoko Kingdom."
"I..." Karl scratched the back of his neck. "I don't..." Karl bit the corner of his lip.
Sapnap seemed to always have memories that never happened. It was so strange to Karl. Was it time-travelling? Was it changing the past so much that events Sapnap seemed to remember from their past together never existed from his timeline?

Sapnap's eyes filled with worry.
Karl didn't like that look. The look of concern.
Karl was alright. He remembered all he needed to. Why was he so worried?

"Well... uh... I guess I have someone for you to meet." Sapnap stared at him, calculating his next move. "Please, Karl, don't be upset, okay?"

"Why would I be upset?"

Instead of answering, Sapnap stood up and wandered to the door. He opened it and gestured to someone, telling them to come inside.
