The drive to the restaurant took no time at all considering it was just five blocks away. Onceinside, they sat across from each other and ordered. Somehow, the atmosphere felt different ascompared to the drive from the airport and conversation didn't come as easily. Before either ofthem could bring themselves to say anything, the food arrived.
Ella was almost grateful that her mouth now had something else to do apart from trying to makeconversation. This wasn't how she hoped their breakfast date would go. She paused for asecond and corrected herself. This wasn't a date. They were just eating together. She couldn'tallow herself to get her hopes up again. He was a huge star now. She might've had a shot backin college but she never made a move and now it was too late.
Yes, he never let her get too close to him even back then and it wasn't like he tried to make amove either but Ella still took comfort in believing that they once had an unspoken thingbetween them. Part of her was glad that she never actually asked him out and as a result, didn'thave to face rejection whilst getting all her hopes of ever being with him shattered but an evenbigger part of her wondered how things would've worked out if she had actually done it.
Christian's voice broke her train of thought. "Is that the necklace I gave you?"
Ella blushed. There was no point in trying to play it cool now. "Yeah..."
"I can't believe you kept it safe for so long."
"Yeah, it's a gift from you. I'd be so sad if I lost the last thing I had gotten from you."
