I silently made my way to the dining area, mom and dad are already waiting for me there.
The long hallways are dark, lifeless and empty. When I reached the dining area, long dark wooden table welcomed me. Mom and dad, the Alpha and the Luna of our pack are sitting at the end of the table, dad at the front of the table and mom at his side. They are staring at each other when I arrived, it seems that no one is around at the moment - it's just their world. They both look at each other with full of love and care. That what's mates are.
Mates.
I wonder when will I meet mine. You can't meet your mate if you can't shift and I can't shift, or I still didn't. And tomorrow is my last chance before my nineteenth birthday. And if I still did not shift into my wolf, I won't be able to shift, ever.
I pushed back the thoughts that keep running at my mind and focused my attention at my lovesick parents. I cleared my throat and they both spun at my direction. Mom immediately stand and made her way towards me and give me a bone crushing hug. I patted her back and kissed her cheek before I went to my father to kiss his cheek too.
I sat at the opposite direction of my mother. Both of them just arrived this afternoon from the city."So..." my father began and cleared his throat "Scar.. Tomorrow is our last chance"
"I know dad" I replied and shook my head. I felt a hand on my shoulder and I look up to see the apologetic smile of my father. I just smiled back and look around for my younger brother. A frown made its way on my face when I hadn't notice him. Mom seems to notice and said
"Nate is in his room, playing." she said with a smile.
Nathan is my younger three year-old annoying, adorable little brother. He just looked exactly like dad with dark hair and gray eyes and I on the other side have the dark raven hair of my father and the deep blue eyes of my mother.
We ate in silence and I excused myself after eating. I walk towards my room and just about to climb upstairs when the front door opened. I waited for someone to show up but no one appeared. I tried to smell the air but I smelled none. Fear consumed my body and the unsettling knot began to form at the pit of my stomach. I walk towards the door to checked if someone was there, I opened it widely, but very slowly and cold night air welcomed me. I walk outside and sat at the bench in our front yard, staring at the beautiful moon above.
You may be wondering how big this house is, but let me tell you something this house is located at the middle of the forest and can fit a hundred or more people. It's not big, it's freakingly huge! But lonely, it is used to be filled with people, many of them but when time flew and days come quickly and months and years passed, the pack members decided to live in the city where they can interact with the cruel heartless humans. They said that they do it to blend in but I doubt that.
I hate humans. They are cruel, heartless and shows no mercy to everyone, even in their own kind.
I stared at the dark forest that surrounds the house, the forest I grew up with. I know every corner of it, every tree that in there and the roads, even the one that we use to distract the humans on the way of our peaceful home. I remembered the pups running and playing everywhere, fooling with each other, laughing and crying, I remember the faces of the pack members that used to live here.
We used to be many, happy. Now, Its just me and my family.
Our house is very far from humans and is beyond their reach so it's very rare for the humans to appear in the forest near our pack house.
Humans, those filthy creatures. I never liked humans. They kill their own kind for power, money and sometimes, they do it just for the fun of it, the thrill of killing, the satisfaction of watching someone die. I will never understand why they decided to join the humans, they always tell me they do it to 'blend in'. But why? I have never been to humans civilization before, but I've seen one.
I smelled his scent before he put a hand on my eyes. "Austin" I said in a low voice.
"I was hoping that you wouldn't know..." he said and made his way beside me.
I looked up at him and the moonlight shone on his face. He changed he look more handsome.. His dark eyes smiles and so does his lips, his brown hair is pointed at every direction that made his looks more messy..
My Best friend...
Austin Manrone is my childhood best friend that now lives with the humans in the city. They move there three years ago and visits here rarely although his father, Antonne is the beta of the pack doesn't made them stay here. But Antonne is always at the pack house with my dad to do some 'pack business'.
And Austin stays with the humans to 'blend in' and study. I on the other hand loves to be home schooled and besides, I don't have to blend in. I can blend in here, in the forest where I belong."Quit staring. I know I'm handsome" he said and a smirk played on his lips. I just rolled my eyes on him and playfully slap his arm.
"Whatever. What brings you here anyway?" I asked.
"Just visitin' And I kinda miss you" he said and rub the back of his neck. I can't help but smile at that. I mean who won't miss a friend you did not see for almost a year.
"I missed you too" I said and pulled him into a tight hug.
He circled his arms around my waist and put his head on my neck, inhaling my scent. I can feel his warm breath fanning my neck and I can't help but shiver. "You changed so much. I barely recognize you if it weren't your addicting scent.." he said and I chuckled.
I pulled away from him and stand. I looked at him with a bright smile and he was staring at me with adoration.
"Quit staring. I know I'm pretty." I mimicked. "Ha-ha very funny Scar." He rolled his eyes at me which made me stick my tongue out to him. "Very mature." He commented. I just laughed at him before walking away heading to the house.
"Hey!" He shouted from behind. "What?" I answered not looking back at him and continued on walking. "Where are you going?" He asked, sounding frustrated. This time, I look back at him "Well duh?" I answered giving him the isn't-it-obvious-look. "Ohh. Ha-ha." He laughed awkwardly. I rolled my eyes at him before saying "Come on. It's getting cold out here." While motioning with my hands. "Right." Then he jogged towards me, stopping right beside me before putting his arms around me. I smiled up at him, and together we walk back to the pack house.
I know we're more than friends.
But we can't. We aren't mates.
Oh how I wish we were.
