Mermaids/Merman- They can willingly shift as long as they are in contact with water. They occasionally are gifted with a destined mate. It is rare but it does happen. They keep the peace of the sea. They keep guard protecting humans from their enemy Sirens.
Sirens- opposite of the merfolk. They can only shift into human form for one week ending on the night of the Blue Moon every two to three years. This allows females to mate with human males to reproduce. Male sirens are rare and very rarely mate with human males. Usually, Males have a chosen female siren as their lifelong partner. They are distinctly different than Merfolk. Their tales and scales or anywhere between black to a cloudy grey mixture. They have teeth that would remind you of a shark. They can mess with people's minds and desires to lure them into their trap.
