The plane's semi-rough landing startled me awake to prepare for my next journey in a new force in the military.
Once the plane lands, I quickly make sure my black long-sleeve shirt is neatly tucked into my green tactical pants along with making sure my mask and my gloves are on right. As the door to the plane opens, I grab my large duffel bag and throw it over my shoulder as I nod at the pilot and get off. The night sky is dark as ever, as the full moon shines brightly at my destination.
I look around the base to see soldiers running around the field, other soldiers getting yelled at by drill instructors, and a few more soldiers sitting outside on the tables talking. While looking around, I see a tall 6'3 man with a well-trimmed mustache and a vest with important patches approach me. He looks at me with a cheeky smile and his eyes squint when he smiles.
I walk towards him and he extends his hand out once he approaches me.
"Hi, I'm Captain John Price. You must be Lieutenant, uh,...Ella, right? Welcome to Task Force 141." He says with his heavy and thick British accent.
I look at him, a slight smile appears on my face underneath my mask as I shake his hand firmly.
"Yes, sir, that would be me. My name's Ella Stein, but I go by Venom; it's my call sign."
"Hm. Venom, eh? Such a fierce call sign for a...fierce and beautiful woman." He says with a wink.
I nod at him as he signals me to follow him.
Right off the bat, I can tell just by being around him he's very funny and comfortable to talk to. I feel as though I can vent to him about anything, even though I just met him five minutes ago.
I end up walking beside him as we both walk across the airfield toward the compound I would consider my new home.
"Laswell has told me how strong of a soldier you were back in KorTac. Do you think you can bring the skills you learned from there to here at Task Force 141?" He asks with a grin on his face.
"Definitely," I say as a smirk begins to form under my mask.
"That's what I like to hear, kid." He clears his throat.
"Now, before I introduce you to the team, I do have to warn you about one member of the team that you will be working with since you both are Lieutenants. I'm sure you've heard about him. He's... a bit of a handful, but he'll come around eventually. Don't underestimate him either on or off the battlefield, though."
I nod at Price in understanding as I look down, beginning to think and understand who exactly he is talking about. Many soldiers back in KorTac would talk about him since he was well-known for his talent, his attitude, and his mask. Some would say that his enemies would be dead before they would even be able to get the chance to see him. I will admit, I was pretty fond of the way he handled things during missions, but that still does not stop me from getting this sudden urge to do whatever it takes to surpass him.
As we head inside the building, we reach the door that says "Debrief" in large white lettering. Before Price opens the door, he turns and looks at me with the same grin as before.
"By the way,... I didn't really tell my men your gender. So if they look a bit stunned to see that you're a girl, then you know why."
"Sounds perfect," I say with the widest smirk ever under my mask.
Price lets out a soft chuckle as he shakes his head and he opens the door. The loud conversations coming from the soldiers inside the room begin to quiet down as soon as Price enters.
Price's demeanor shifts from soft and caring to stern and cold look; his eyebrows lower to rest above his eyes as he looks at the soldiers in the room.
"Gentlemen, we have received a transfer soldier to Task Force 141. Please give them the proper and well-deserved respect, for they are Lieutenant, and do not give them a hard time. Anybody who does give them a hard time will answer to me."
Price looks over at me as he motions his head for me to enter the room.
I walk inside the room, my back straight and my eyes full of intimidation as always, and stand next to Price. As I enter the room, I can feel all eyes on me, some shocked to see I'm a girl and others a bit disgusted to see a woman has joined this task force. I try not to let their stares get to me until I feel as if this one stare is staring right at my soul. I ignore the one specific set of eyes on me as I stand next to Price and stare at everyone back in the room.
The one set of eyes that felt completely different to me belonged to a tall male with a skull for a mask. As soon as he caught my eye, I could immediately tell who he was. Ghost, the primary Lieutenant of Task Force 141; is one of the quietest yet strongest soldiers in the task force. I glance at him for a bit as he leans against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest and his dark eyes locked and pierced on me. As he looks at me, I glare at him for a few seconds and blink and turn to look at everyone else in the room.
"Well, what're you waitin' for, kid? Care to introduce yourself?" Price says as he nudges me while looking at me with a slight grin again.
I clear my throat and look at the soldiers.
"Hi, I'm Venom. My real name is confidential, so don't bother asking me, I won't tell you. I was a Lieutenant Operator in KorTac Faction for six years until I transferred here, so I know a lot about weaponry and hand-to-hand combat. I'm twenty-three years old and I hope to be part of the military until I retire,...whenever that is. I look forward to being part of this team and working with you all."
I flash a smile at everyone as they all look at me and either snicker or stare at me with blank faces. Once I finish talking, I hear a deep rough voice with a British accent from across the room.
"...I doubt you'll be able to last even a few days here."
My eyes immediately shift to the person that said that comment. I look to see it was Ghost that said it as I glare at him. He returns the glare back to me as we both just stand there, staring at one another.
Price clears his throat as he glares at Ghost, signaling him to cut it out. Ghost shakes his head as he looks away.
"Well, that's it for tonight. Please give a warm welcome to Venom and make her feel comfortable here at Task Force 141. You're all dismissed."
The soldiers leave the debriefing room as they head to their own dorms a bit further down the hall. I grab my bag and head to the dorm I was assigned to; I walk inside and let out a sigh of relief as I close the door behind me and lean against it a bit.
"...Tomorrow's another day."
I mumble to myself as I close my eyes while leaning against the closed door a bit longer.
