Complications

Chapter Ten: Reuinited

Waiting for Soap felt like forever; seconds turned to minutes and minutes turned to hours. Me and Ghost were still in the church sitting in silence. I was leaning against the wall near the blocked door, sharpening my knife while Ghost was talking to Soap through his earpiece, telling him those cheesy dad jokes.

It wasn't until Soap spoke again through the radio, he sounded relieved yet slightly anxious.

"Ghost, Venom, I'm near the church but there's company. Be ready!" Soap says.

I look up at Ghost to see him standing up from the ground while getting his weapon ready, he then looks at me with his usual stern look.

"You ready?" He asks.

"Yes." I say shortly as I stand up from the ground and get my backpack and weapon ready.

Me and Ghost quickly remove all the furniture blocking the door and wait until Soap is near the church fully. After a few minutes, Soap bangs on the door, signaling us that he's here.

"Let's go!" Ghost says as he busts open the door while drawing his weapon. Once he opens the door, Soap is in front of the church, shooting at a few of the Shadows. He then turns and looks at us over his shoulder.

"Ghost! Venom! Glad to see ya both!" Soap says with a grin. Even while shooting, he tries to be positive.

"No time for that Johnny, we gotta move." Ghost yells while finding cover and shooting at any upcoming Shadows.

"Where do we go!?" Soap shouts.

I quickly look around and see a car a street down from us.

"There's a car further down here! Let's go there and take it and get as far away from town!" I yell as I hide behind a bush with Soap.

"Good idea." Soap nods.

Once the coast was clear, the three of us immediately started running down the street. Ghost made it first, then Soap, then me. As soon as we got in the car, I felt relieved but still on edge since we were out in the open.

"Alright, Johnny, we made it." Ghost says calmly as he gets in the drivers seat. Soap grins at Ghost in the passenger seat while I sit in the back.

"We all made it, L.T." Soap says confidently.

Suddenly, a bullet hits the back window of the car which startles me at first but I quickly take out my handgun and start shooting at the Shadows that were shooting at us.

"Hang on tight." Ghost says as he steps on the gas pedal and starts driving in reverse, running over the two Shadows I was trying to shoot at before finally driving off. Ghost was driving like a damn maniac, running over almost everything in town while me and Soap were shooting at the men chasing us.

"Who the fuck taught you how to drive!?" I shout.

"Are you hurt tho!?" Ghost says; I stay quiet. "Exactly. Now keep watch while we get outta here!"

I scoff and roll my eyes, looking out the, now broken, back window as we leave town and drive into the dark mountains.

An hour goes by, the sun was very slowly starting to rise but it was still dark out. Ghost stops the car once we're far away from town. The three of us step out the car; I look up to see a large cabin looking house, whose house is this? Are we breaking in? Before I could even ask, Soap beats me to it.

"Where are we?" Soap asks as he walks beside Ghost while I walk behind them.

"Alejandro's lady-friend's safe house. Gave me the location just in case." Ghost says while putting his gun away.
